I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21st century literature of the world through:
1. A written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and theme, with
a description of its context derived from research
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Unit VI: Real World Issues; Module 3: Autism
Materials: White board Marker, Board, Books, Video, PowerPoint
Reference: 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World (122 – 125)

2. Motivation
Direction:
1. The students will do the tongue twister.
2. Whoever reads the tongue twister with no error will get a prize.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
The teacher will present the new lesson.

 What do you think of people with autism? Why do you think this way?

 The story you are about to read is written from the perspective of a person with autism. It is an excerpt
from a novel, and the narrator is writing a murder mystery about who killed a dog in his neighborhood.
Funny and wise, this excerpt shows a glimpse of what it is like to have autism
 Let the student read the excerpt The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night -Time by Mark Haddon
2. Analysis
1. What are your reactions to the story? How is it different from your expectations?
2. Did you find the story funny? Why?
3. Is this something that happens a lot? What are your personal experiences about being true to oneself?
3. Abstraction
Does he make you look at things in a different way? Why is that important?
4. Application

What is the social significance of the story?


5. Assessment
With a small group, create a manifesto about your actions regarding children with special needs. Write how
you will treat them, the kind of language that is not acceptable. Include research or case studies that you think are
relevant to the Manifesto to further your case. Discuss how special-needs children should be treated in school. Write
this down and report it to the class.
