TENTATIVE TOPIC :
Ornithology Center at Coimbatore.
BROAD TYPOLOGY OF THESIS
This Thesis proposal is a center for study and research of birds of the endemic biodiversity.
PHILOSOPHY OF DESIGN AND THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
 A center for birds is for the betterment of the ecological biodiversity.

 Birds play a different role in different food chain from mid-level consumers to top
level predators, and also after death it becomes food for the decomposers.
 Providing of Ornithology center is to bring the awareness of the importance of
birds and other natural beings and also they study about the wetland ecosystem
and they propose new plans for betterment of ecosystem.
AIM
To design a space for Scientists and research scholars studying about birds and
natural beings of the endemic Atmosphere, which can support the betterment of
nature.
JUSTIFICATION OF THE TOPIC
• It is a hub or space where the scholars who are interested to learn about
the nature and other species, and they join together and do their research
and study.
• The Perur lake is visited by large number of birds every year including
migratory, Local , rare and endangered.
• Perur lake consists catchment area of 5.768 SQ .M. The perur lake is the non-
flower of sewer into this lake and relatively unpolluted and contains rich
content of Molluscs which is a food for birds.

ARCHITECTURAL 2019-
• In this lake averagely 42 species of birds were found, it consists of local birds
and migrating birds.
• It is the home for the 17 species of winter migrating birds during the month
of February to April.
• But due to human interventions like pollution , Deforestation,

encroachment and illegal constructions have destroyed the ecological
balance of the area. so we must conserve the wetland ecosystem and
ecological biodiversity.
OBJECTIVES
• To design and conduct research in ornithology covering all aspects of

biodiversity.
• To develop and conduct regular ornithology courses.
• To create a data bank of the birds.
• To disseminate the knowledge relating to ornithology and nature for benefit
of the community.
SCOPE OF WORK AND LIMITATIONS
 The center can make the people aware of importance of birds as well as other
living beings, importance of wetlands and need of its conservation.
 It could propose new projects for betterment of ecosystem.
 Experiencing the same habitat of birds will help to scholars to know more about
them.
 This center provides a Museum, Laboratories, Auditorium, Library, Data bank,
Training halls, workshop, Dormitories ,etc…,
PROPOSED LOCATION
The proposed location is situated at Coimbatore.

CASE STUDIES
Live case study - SACON , Coimbatore.
Salim Ali center for Ornithology and Natural History is the only center in India
where Institutional and research activities conducted about the birds and wet
land ecosystem and its habitants. It is located in Aanaikatty, Coimbatore. It is
along the foot of Western Ghats.
CONCLUSION
Birds play different roles in different food chains from mid-level consumers to top
level predators. And also after death it becomes the food for decomposers and
scavengers.
As it helps in maintain the Biological balance of the nature.
Therefore this thesis proposal of ornithology center is essential for the

conservation of both birds and wetlands of ecosystem and also helpful in
betterment of ecological biodiversity and will bring the awareness to the
people to know about the importance of birds.
