Communication Internship

April and May 2014


I. Introduction

Current, the trainee was enrolled in DC 95, Communication trainee to accomplish the
Job Training Program (OJT) to complete the requirements of 200 hours.

The trainee was assign to the Philippine Center and Mechanization located at CLSU
Compound., Science City of Munoz, Nueva,Ecija. Internship or on the job training is one way by
which we students are given an opportunity to apply the theories and computations that we
have learned from school. It also helps us to obtain applicable knowledge and skills by
performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities require their students to undergo
such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum

For us students, an OJT or internship program provides opportunities to go through the


actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipments, and documents. In
effect, the work place becomes a development venue for us student trainee to learn more about
our chosen field and practice what we have learn from University. On the other hand, a valuable
OJT program also profits the companies who accept trainees. First OJT or intern provides extra
manpower for a less significant labor cost than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager
to learn the ropes so chances are high that they’ll be given a chance to work on the same
company as an employee after graduating. Employers can use this internship strategy as
method in recruiting employees. Since the trainer or supervisor can follow the trainees’
progress, he can gauge based on performance, behavior and attitude if the trainee will make
good recruit after the completion of his internship.

We trainees can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the opportunity to
converse our minds freely and without fear, we may be able to contribute significantly in
brainstorming sessions or research and eventually help improve the organizations productivity.
While training the interns, employers are in fact also teach their employees to guide the trainees
by stretching their patience, develop teaching skills and make them more sensitive to the needs
and mind set of the younger generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to
share what they know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an
avenue in training for future managers of the company.
II. AGENCY PROFILE

A. BRIEF HISTORY

Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization or PHilMech was


formerly called the National Postharvest Institute for Research and Extension (NaPHIRE). This
agency was created on May 24, 1978 through Presidential Decree No. 1380.
In 1980, as a subsidiary on NFA, its function was expanded in line with the conversion of
NGA to NFAA. In 1986, through Exec. Order No. 116 it became an attached agency of
Department of Agriculture.
After six years, it was transformed into a regular bureau through Executive Order No.
494. In pursuant to Executive Order 366, the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension
(BPRE) was renamed as the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization
(PHilMech) effective April 5, 2010.

B. PHilMech MANDATE

Generate, extend and commercialize appropriate and problem-oriented mechanization


and postproduction technologies and practices to reduce losses, improve food and feed quality,
ensure food safety and maximize the benefits to the various stakeholders.

C. VISION

“A profitable and globally competitive farming and fishing communities characterized by


dynamic and responsive postproduction and mechanization technologies and systems.”

D. MISSION
To empower farmers and fisher folks by preserving and adding value to their produce
and increasing their resource use efficiency and productivity by:
 taking the lead in the formulation and execution of mechanization and postharvest
systems research and development in the agriculture and fishery sector
 expanding and strengthening a pool of experts that generates appropriate
mechanization and postharvest technologies
 disseminating relevant information to advance the knowledge of stakeholders
 building strategic alliances with RFUs, LGUs, academe, and equipment manufacturers

E. OBJECTIVES

1. Reduce postharvest losses, maintain quality, ensure food safety and increase value of
agricultural and fishery commodities;
2. Enable entrepreneurs, especially the smallholders, to engage in profitable mechanization,
postharvest handling and processing business activities;
3. Increase resource use efficiency and productivity of farmers and fisher folks;
4 Advocate policies that would enhance postharvest and mechanization development.

F. GENERAL FUNCTION OF PHilMech

Strengthen Research and Development to increase agricultural productivity, food quality


and safety.

Science and Technology Information Packaging Section (STIPS)

Function: Produces and develops science and technology information materials on postharvest and
mechanization
Prepares and produces information, education and communication materials
Packages R and D results into scientific publications (PH journals, etc.) and other Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) formats
Provides prototype Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to the Agricultural
Extension Service (AES) and other intermediaries

III.Activities and Outputs


April 04, 2014

The first day that the trainee started, Mr.Jessie Czar Samaniego the one who orient us he
talked about the vision, mission of the company, and uniform.He asks me what my expectation
in this trainee is.

Week 1: (April 10-11 2014)

Thursday:

I wrote an Article about the success projects of PhilMech.

Friday:

Arranging the materials need in the seminar like leaflets,flyers,cd and tour the participants
around PhilMech and explain about PhilMech technologies.

Week 2 : (April 14-18, 2014)

Monday:

Briefing with the Division Chief of Applied Communication Division Mr.Rodolfo Estigoy he

introduce us to our bosses Jeliza Hernandez and i belong to Ms.Best Gee S. Magararu was at

Science and Technology Information Dissemination.

Tuesday-Friday:

Ma'am Best Gee give our task 1 of them is make a power point presentation about

PhilMech technologies, the rest of the week i do research about PhilMech technologies and

start make a presentation.


Week 3: (April 21-25)

Jeliza and I the one who assigned about the exhibit at Widus Hotel and Casino Convention

Center located at Clark Pampanga aside from assist all the questions of the participants, Ma'am

Isis told us to make an article about the exhibit. The exhibit is Monday to Friday.

Week 4: (April 28-30)


Monday:

Typing of the information, Features and Specifications of the technologies and put some

information about the exhibit.

Tuesday:

Ma'am Best Gee give me a task to write a article about Organic Agriculture the article about

the exhibit were already pass to ma’am Isis.

Wednesday:

Put some information on power point presentation about PhilMech Technologies.

Week 5: (May 5-9)

Monday:

Mr. Rodolfo Estigoycalls us for a meeting the meeting is all about the incoming

anniversary we he talked the materials that use for the celebration.

Tuesday:
Read about Rice Mechanization and editing the power point.

Wednesday:

Continuation of editing the power point and make an article about Rice Mechanization.

Thursday:

Getting some details about Organic Agriculture and edit some power point.

Friday:

Mr.AldrinHipolito Staff of Applied Communication Division told Jeliza and I to make a power

point presentation about the history of PhilMech this presentation will present at the lobby of

PhilMech.

Week 6: (May 13-14)

Are bosses told us to Attend the Seminar of "The 35th Agency In-house Research

Development and Extension Review" for two days.

Thursday:
Assist the participant from Ilocos Norte to know about the PhilMech technologies.

Friday:

“Regional Cacao Marketing and Investment forum for Sustainable Industry.”

Week 7: (April 20, 21)

Wrote jingle about Organic Agriculture (tagalog) until the rest of the training. Ma’am Best

Gee check the power point presentation and she suggest to change the font style, color and

summarize the information of the technologies and distribute the new notebook of PhilMech.

Week 8: (April 26-28)


Technology Integration

“MIAP: Facing the challenges of ASEAN Integration” was the theme of the 27th celebration of

MIAP National Convention Opening exhibition at Widus Clark field Pampanga starts on April 23,

2014.

The first day of the event start with a golf tournament and ceremonial swing led by the national

president of mimosa Mr. Virgilio F. Lanzuela. After the tournament cutting ribbon led by the

chairman, Clark Development Center Mr.Elesio B. Santiago, President, MIAP-Metro Manila Mr.

Danilo M. Andres, convention chair and MIAP members Mr. Edison Y. See.

The second day of the exhibition will be start at 08:00am this will be the registration entrance of

colors, national anthem and Declaration of Convention Open led by the National President of

MIAP Mr. Virgilio F. Lanzuela and the welcome message was the Mayor of Angeles City

Pampanga Hon. Edgardo Pamintuan. After the Lunch was the overview of ASEAN Economic

Community and Philippine Free Trade Areas and followed the Testimonial, Response, Road

Mapping towards ASEAN Competitiveness, at 03:30pm was the Technical Presentation “Oil of

Services and Oil Maintenance” and followed the question and answer. At the evening will be the

fellowship for all the participants.

The third day morning of the exhibition was the awarded to Engr. Leonardo B. Santiago and

after that will be the Assessment and Reaction of MIAP to ASEAN Economic Integration (Open

Forum), Technical Presentation of CIM technologies,INC. next will be the Presentation of

Teknologix,INC. followed by the question and answer. At 11:00am time to PhilMech to present

their new projects led by the Director IV Mr. Rex L. Bingabing. The last day of the Exhibit it ends

up Exit of Colors and fellowship Part 2.


The purpose of the exhibition is to give more information, give time all the companies that will

participate to introduce their new technologies and projects to be familiarize here in our country.

IV.Summary, Conclusion & Recommendation

The trainee on the job training program was survive at Philippine Center for Postharvest
Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) located at CLSU Compound., Science City of
Munoz,Nueva Ecija needed spent of 200 hours.

The short period of time that the, trainee during the OJT was ablest to impartation
knowledge and gaining from school. I notice that PhilMechis really professional in their jobs, for
the next generation i suggest to inquire early you their company target when it comes to choose
a company i suggest PhilMech at PhilMech you van improved your editing and writing skills.

V.Problem and Solutions

The whole training for me this is only the problem locked of computer their only 1 computer
that we use at the library we divided the working time to make sure all of us can use the
computer and do our outputs.
