Dua Garis Biru - A Movie Reflection
This is a story about Bima and Dara, a school teenagers which come from 2 different
background in the society but studying in the same class. As an achieved status, the boy is
popular but under-achiever and the girl is a star, that will have a very bright future ahead. But
both are favourable among their peers and eldest. Their role expectation in school also is
fulfill. Bima, a sweet and handsome boy is an average student in the class. But he is sweet and
likeable by his peers. Coming from an average family and living in almost a slum like area but
being raised by a a good parents that abide by the law and also by religion. His parents have
fulfill their role in raising a good kid. Their family have no posession for a status symbol.
As for Dara, she is beautiful and pretty popular in the school. A top scorer is her
achieved status and always wanted to further her study in South Korea after much exposed
to the Korean Pop (K-Pop) phenomenon in the mass media. Come from a different family
status than Bima, her family is well made. Her father and mother is a succesfull business
owner and very respectful by the society for their achieved status. They live in a big house
with a swimming pool as a symbol of their status in the society. However, being in business,
they are busy and Dara was left home alone or with his younger sister all the time.
Bima has easy access into Dara’s bedroom most of the time. In society which Islam
is the religion, socializing between men and women or boy and girl has it limits. Different
gender were not allowed to be alone without 3rd party because it will lead to adultery.
Premarital sex is a sin and were not allowed to happen. When this rule in the religion is
broken, then it happened. The consequences? Dara got pregnant. When the news broke, two
families is ashame to face the society. At the age of 17, an age which considered as underage
by law and also in the society which religion is well received, premarital sex and pregnancy
is a huge offense. The whole family now will get a new master status.
As for Dara, she is no longer a cute, sweet and a bright young lady who will have a
bright future but a sinner is her new master status. Also goes with Bima, their achieved
status is now changed when society start looking on the bad thing that they have done. They
are now considered as a failed parents in a role perfomance. The problem is gotten bigger
when Dara expelled from school while Bima is allowed to continue study. This is the conflict
in a society social structure where women is more to blame than the man where the offense
is commited by two person and one is excluded from being punished. Somehow, to adhere to
the rule as a muslim and being responsible as parents in the society and the underage kids
that need to obey the parents, the couple married.
And now come the main conflict where both family is fighting for the right to take
care of the young pregnant lady and also the child when he is born. Ashamed and lose, Dara’s
parents decide to give the child to other family. As a responsible parents they wanted to play
their role to make sure their daughter is taken care. They believe the couple is more eligible
to be parents since their achieved status as a succesful adults but with no kids.
Now, both kids struggle being an adult despite still very young. They have to take
role as parents as deemed by the society. There is also a role conflict where they need to be
parents and also students at the same time. There will be so much expectation from the family
also the society that already stressed them out. As the time passed the have succesfully pass
their trial and tribunal and have a happy ending.
This movie shows that, regardless of your social status, raising kids especially
teenagers is very challenging, demanding and never easy. Even when you think you perform
well in your role, there is always mistake here and there. Bima’s mother regret that she never
has the chance to talk about sexual topics with his son despite giving him loves and
education. Dara’s parents also who have role conflict in being in business and raising kids
thought they have had give her everything which is not.
This movie shows the reality in today’s teenagers life. Love, religion and social
culture and norm would not guarantee that any members of the society would not commit
offense or do any mistake.
End.
