They were composed of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Most of their early hits were written by Lennon and McCartney. By the mid-1960s, the Beatles had become global superstars and helped spark the British Invasion in America. However, by 1970 the band members had begun to quarrel and pursue solo careers, leading to the breakup of the band after eight successful years together.
