Personal Reflection

When I first started my career exploration I was interested in business, more specifically

supply chain and operations management. Supply chain is the management of the flow of goods

and services and includes all processes that transform raw materials into final products for

customers. Business still is my main career interest, but I decided to pursue an undecided

business career path. Since I am not completely sure what every aspect of business has to offer,

the undecided / general study of business path should help me better understand my career

interests. Listening to some of the speakers that North Catholic has had in to talk about different

careers, research on different universities and discussions with my family helped reinforce that

business is the correct path for me at this time.

As stated above, my primary focus is in a business-related career. I believe that I am well

suited for this field because I took a Business Management class as a freshman. This was my

favorite class and I got a good grade. I particularly liked the marketing and economics sections.

We also did a semester long project that included developing a business plan which was

interesting and allowed me to use many of the things I learned in the class. As a sophomore, we

were required to research a major / career at a specific university. I researched Supply Chain and

Operations Management. This project got me excited and made me think a lot about my future.

I still want to pursue the path of business, just maybe not the supply chain path. I think I

will excel and succeed in any business path I end up in. I am a knowledgeable person and able to

work within a team. Teamwork seems to be one of the most important qualities in the business

world.

Some skills that are integral for my career interest are leadership, a good work ethic,

being a fast learner, and time management. I feel that I have been a leader on the different

baseball teams that I played on from youth baseball to travel baseball to high school baseball. A

good work ethic along with being a fast learner will give you the edge up on the competition.

Time management is a great skill to have in any career.

Some personal characteristics that will help me have success in this career path is my

communication and presentation skills. Being able to talk to people and share ideas is a great

quality that I possess. Communication within a team is a necessity for any business to be

successful. In addition, I am good with numbers and problem solving. These reasons all

reinforce that business is a good decision for me.

My faith has been with me throughout the process. Early on in school I struggled and

made some bad decisions. I was able to lean on my faith and prayed that I would mature, be a

better person and maximize my potential. Slowly things started to turnaround for me. My

grades improved as my work ethic improved and I got my priorities straightened out. It took a

lot of perseverance. I applied to six different colleges and I am happy to say that I have been

accepted by the first three that I have heard back from this year. I will need to lean on my faith

again in the coming weeks and months. I will pray for help in picking a school. This decision

will help shape the person I become. I will also pray that I continue to make good decisions,

study hard, have some fun and maximize the gifts God gave me.
