Augmented Reality
Augmented reality enhances a user's perception of and interaction with the real world.
The virtual objects display information that the user cannot directly detect with his own senses.
AR could be used to annotate objects and environments with public or private information. For
example, a hand-held display could provide information about the contents of library shelves as
the user walks around the library
Augmented reality (AR) combines virtual information with the real environment. AR also
enhances the user's perception of vision, touch, hearing, and smell. AR research prioritizes
design of applications that are effective and easy to use. many elderly people who use cell
phones, for that we need the development of AR technology that is useful for older people in
some areas.
AR provides artificial stimulation to users that something happens in the real world, users
play an important role in AR architecture. Users receive immediate benefits in AR technology.
For example AR is useful for doctors and patients.
The second is interaction, interaction consists of two components, inter and action.
interaction mean one entity doing something and another entity receives treatment. In AR
interaction can occur between users and AR devices. For example people use store search, to
find the nearest Tesco location, they must launch the Application or the Tesco channel first. And
then, people can adjust the position of the mobile device to view the superimposed virtual
bubbles.
The third is a device. A device in AR means a carrier or object that provides interesting
augmentation. There are 3 hardware functions in AR including sensors, processors, and displays,
sensors recognize the state of the physical world. A processor processes sensor information and
produces the signal needed to move the screen. The screen will display coexistence that users can
feel the combination of the physical world and the virtual world.
The fourth is virtual content. Virtual content means digital information delivered by AR
devices, virtual content can be in the form of 3D animation, 2D images, text, web sites, audio
information or even vibration.
The fifth is real content, is real-world information that is directly presented by the device
without rendering, including in it geographical location, physical objects and real world
environment. For example, the AR translator Word lens produces real, verbalized words
translated words that replace the real world. If the user wants to see the original words, the user
must delete the AR device, The user cannot see both at the same time.
the sixth is tracking, which explains how to produce virtual content based on real content.
AR must be updated synchronously due to changes in real content, for example in the translator
feature, when users type something, the feature will translate, but when the user adds a word to
be translated, the feature will change. And if the feature cannot change quickly then the user will
not be able to use it to the full.
AR has also been used to support learning chemistry, especially in learning molecular
geometry through AR on the Android system. In molecular geometry 3D visualization is needed
to describe bonds between atoms or bonds between molecules so students can understand well.
Making AR media has several steps. First install the 3D application needed to build
various visualizations of 3D objects that will be made augmented reality, such as google
sketchup and corel draw x5 to make a marker. The marker made with a unique shape so that it
can be easily detected by Vuforia Developer. After installing then run google sketchup to create
3D objects. After that move the image from google sketch and marker to the unity 3D
application. The final step is to build application extensions using Android Studio to set the
android version that is desirable so that it can run on a smartphone.
