INTRODUCTION

What is Archaeological museum?

 Museum is a non-profitable permanent institution in the service of society and its


development , open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches,
communicates and exhibits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its
environment for the purpose of education, study and environment.

 A museum that specializes in the display of archaeological artifacts. It’s been a vital
source of reference for mankind to relate and understand the past.

Why Archaeological museum as a thesis.?

 To known the balance between the tradition and the contemporary exposures on the
finest sensibility. Intention to Prevent, preserve and conserve the artifacts.

 Sustainable approach through sensitive manipulation through locally available


material,Respective services and maintenance to make the building self-dependent.

 Expose the cultural consideration, material contemporary to the period.

 The project importance is in regional level, but respecting the actual context and as an
international tourist spot the value of the project goes to the international level.

AIM:

 The aim of the study is to make an overview on archaeological museum designs


specially focusing on contemporary display of artifacts.

 Sustaining the historic importance of the site will also be taken into consideration.
Preservation, restoration and conservation plays an important role.

 When considering archaeological museums,the design of the artifacts and the way they
are presented to the public must be thoughtful. The design and the layout of the
displays activate the visitor’s imagination and this act encourages them to express
themselves.
OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of this dissertation is to find interpretation guidelines for a historic museum
and appropriate methods of communicating with visitors via the museum exhibits,
interior and exterior. Cultural learning is imminent by visually involved in the past.

1. Museums interior, activities and exhibitions.

2. Organizes temporary exhibition in the museum

3. Host a large number of archeology related lectures in lecture hall-annually

4. The interactive displays, informative videos and its surrounding scenery will
be given

5. Supports on - The theatre, The Concert hall, Movie-house, and library.

6. Building, Surroundings and architectural interpretations

7. Maintenance and services on natural lighting.

SCOPE:

 Gives an opportunity to depict the usage of locally available material into experiment
which are being in abundance.

Eg: Excavated soil , Deforested timber and so on.

 Creating a site originated architecture respectively Tourism, culture, education and


space and form.

 Intends to express the vivid history of its development through contemporary


displaying.

 Research centre accompany to find the material evidence of people and their
environment.

THRUST AREA:

Structure overlook the entire site ,providing a 360 degree view of it, topped by a roof
garden. The building comprises an array of active and passive technical solutions aimed to
control the internal micro-climate, such as an advanced air conditioning system, daylight
and artificial lighting control devices. Themed partition are able for exhibits and display.
METHODOLOGY:

 Museum tends to be partial open aired and open planned accordingly Human
interaction and exploring the experiences.

 Evolution of museum space for landscape design and physical manifestation.

 Museum Designing factors and circulation for the filled narration through galleries.

 Types of exhibits and Types of display

 Lighting ( Natural and Artificial ) roof has play with sustainable energy as solar panelling
and services are carried throughout the structure.

 The goal is to make a clear, compact and have efficient and sustainable utilization for a
long term.

SITE:

Location : Keezhadi, Madurai - Tamilnadu.

Total area : 110 Acres

Site area : 6 Acres

Proposed by Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) .


Keezhadi is the heart of the Vaigai river valley civilization,
parts of which have been excavated. It is of importance
because it is the first built proof of the existence of the
glorious Sangam Era as known from the texts of Sangam
literature. My intention was to revive this cultural hub
that once was, for a larger debate on origins and Indian
history and development.
