Case # 8

Introduction:

The success of a business depends on its employees and its downfall will also

be directed immediately to the errors in staffing. Loss of money, credibility and other

important factor in a business will be a big burden to carry. Therefore there is no doubt

that effective staffing place the company on the highest pedestal of success.

Learning assessment:

1. Assess and present which part of the staffing procedure were not done properly.

- There is a poor management, lack of motivation and changes in

organizational structure are forefront of unproductive workplace. The HR

department didn’t take charged in ensuring the capabilities that lead to the

employment of unqualified and inept workers.

2. Describe the detriments of not conducting a Human Resource Planning.

- Poor human resources planning can have a negative effect on workplace

productivity and there will be a decline in productivity and the company will

suffer.

3. Develop a proposed job description and job specification for the company.

- Account Development Manager

Job Description – develops new business by analyzing account potential;

recommending new applications and sale strategies.

Job Specification –Initiates sales process by building relationships and

scheduling appointments; identifies potential accounts; develop new

applications; contributes information to sale; update job knowledge.

Conclusion:

- An ineffective staffing that does not plan practical recruiting strategies could

negatively impact the integrity of the work force. So therefore, every

department must follow proper screening policies for the success of the

company.

Case # 9

Introduction:

Communicating well means proper understanding of job description and other

issues concerning the company but it must be organized effectively and efficiently.

Learning Assessment:

1. Assess the communication barriers encountered in the case.

- The communication barriers encountered in the case is the incapacity to

comprehend/communicate the real issues of concern. The main idea was not

developed properly and so idea was not conveyed well. The employees also

had inability to express the issues in proper writing that leads to

misinterpretations in other words, there is a semantic barrier.

2. Evaluate the situation and propose appropriate form and means of

communication for the firm.

- The firm must have quarterly feed backing to the employees to facilitate

understanding, must have a prepared form for their concerns. Must have pre-

and post-conferences. And the manager as well must have constant

communication to everyone.

3. Propose communication technique/model for Jupiter Drug Corporation.

- One-on-one interview to raise sensitive topics and to prevent

embarrassments.

- Make visual presentations when communicating

- Conduct business training, team meetings

- As head, be friendly and listen to employees, be open minded and show

respect.
Conclusion:

Communication is indeed a powerful tool to achieve the goals of the company so

therefore communications must be managed.

Case # 10:

Introduction:

Motivating an individual increases the performance in doing a job. Our economy

on the other hand will not prosper if employees we’re not motivated, therefore we need

motivation to become productive and well-rounded.

Learning assessment:

1. Assess the situation and describe what factors of motivation is not innate with Mr

Cortes.

- Assessing the case of Mr Cortes, it shows that all of the factors of motivation

were not innate in him because in the first place Mr Cortes was very

productive and very commendable as salesclerk. The factor of willingness to

the job was not observable because Mr Cortes doesn’t wanted to be

promoted and so he made a way that the plan of promoting him will be

questioned. The factor of self-confidence in carrying out the task was neither

observed because he made his reports inconsistent with his previous outputs;

the attendance on the other hand was not perfect; and easily gets irritated

because he is not motivated to do his job. The factor of need satisfaction was

not of served based on the case because he is not performing his job well.

2. Which motivational theory do you think is appropriate with Mr. Cortes?

- Expectancy Theory was evident in Mr. Cortes because he works well in his

perception; a perception that he only wanted to become a salesclerk shows

commendable record for promotion but because he did not perceived that he

will be promoted to a higher position he made way not to be promoted.

3. Devise a plan or strategy to motivate Mr. Cortes to accept additional

responsibility and perform as expected.

- Mr. Cortes was actually not ready for the promotion and that’s why he was

hesitant to accept the promotion and started move that he will not be

promoted. My suggestion so that Mr. Cortes will accept additional

responsibility and perform as expected was to motivate him through rewards.

That every time he performs the expected output from his work, he will be

rewarded.

Conclusion:

Performing a job at hand will never be easy as what others perceived based on

your performance if you’re not motivated. And in doing so, your performance will be

affected. Therefore, we have to keep in mind that we have to be always motivated to do

and perform our job well so that in return we will satisfy our needs and wants.
