ANGELICA archangelica Biennial. 200 cm. Stately aromatic plant with yellow flowers in Summer much
loved by insects and bees. The young shoots may be candied, the flavour is out of this world! The leaves
give a gentle muscatel flavour when used whilst cooking fruit.
ANISE Pimpinella anisum Annual. 40 cm Green leaves and the seeds flavour soups, stews, cakes. Use
young leaves in moderation in salads. Aids digestion. Very ancient spice

Artemisia are generally aromatic and have many uses - decorative, medicinal and ground cover.
ARTEMISIA camphorata P. 60 cm Tiny yellow/red flowers and aromatic grey/green foliage. Handsome
when dried for flower arrangers. When dried may be added in moderation to moth repellent sachets.

foliage, warm fruity scent. Cut back hard in Spring to produce a pretty rounded shrub, pick a leaf as you
pass by.
BACON and EGGS Lotus corniculatus. P. 30cm Yellow pea like flowers tipped red in summer and
autumn. Native, spreading plant. Birds foot-trefoil. Excellent plant for insects.
BALM OF GILEAD Cedronella canariensis H H P 80cm Pale pink flowers and attractive foliage with
balsam/citron scent Keep frost free in Winter. Very useful when mixed with lavender, lemon verbena etc
to make a head clearing sachet.
Basil is easy to grow, if you remember that it is a tender annual plant, and needs to be grown fast
without any root disturbance. Water at midday, dryish roots at night, and above all - a large pot
with plenty of root room. Nip off the flowers as they form, and use the tips of shoots for cooking to
encourage the plants to bush out into large, well balanced plants. Only place outside when no
danger of frost or cold nights.

The Mentha family is enormously wide ranging in flavour, scent and ability to spread.Scent is very
subjective, depending on memory and happy or other occaisions. Therefore, we will not all like the
same mint for sauce or tea. My favourite for tea, sauce, salads and fruit is 'Moroccan' mint.
