(Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief)

Richard Russell Riordan Jr. or famously known as rick Riordan who is new York times best
American Author who is greatly acknowledge by his prolific writing on the major hit series “Percy
Jackson and the Olympians”. The book 1 Entitled “Percy Jackson and the lightning thief” describe the
travails of a twelve year old boy who discover that he is the son of a Greek God Poseidon, the God of
the sea and creatively unveils his adventures in both the Greek and modern world.
In Rick Riordan’s the lightning thief, Percy’s identity has significantly changed because of the
quest that has been bestowed upon him. Likewise, there has been many challenges and situations that he
needs to undertake and overcome to fulfil his quest of greatness.
Firstly, the story illustrates the mere life of a 12 year old sixth grader named Percy Jackson who
discovers something peculiar about him that makes him fell unique to everyone else. He suddenly learned
that he is a half-blood: half-human, half-god that’s why he was taken to camp half-blood, a camp that
was established to keep safe those kids with the likes of him from the grasp of the monster that are fond
of attacking half-bloods.
At his experience in the camp, he learned various information about himself that really shock
him. He learned that his father is the great God of the sea and was blamed for the theft of Zeus, the God
of lighting’s precious master bolt and threatens him that he will declare war against him if the lightning
bolt will not returned by the summer solstice.
Percy set forth on a quest to retrieve Zeus’s master bolt with the company of his buddies. Grover,
his best friend and Anna Beth, a smart demi-god and daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom. They
presumed that the master bolt is located in the Underworld within the captivity of hades.
During their thrilling and exciting adventure, they duel such vicious and monstrous creatures like
medusa, find disaster on the observation deck of the Gateway arch, their memories in an enchanted Vegas
casino, and they almost faced death itself.
Once they have reached the depths of the Underworld, Percy find that hades does not have
Zeus’s master bolt and unfortunately, the master bolt magically appears in Percy’s backpack and awakens
the demon within hades.

Fortunately, they have escaped Hades wrath and encounter Ares and discovers that Ares stole
the master bolt. Ares has been tempted by the possibility of sparking one of the biggest wars of all time
between the Big Three: Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Percy and Ares battle it out on the beach, and Percy
wounds Ares, winning the helm of darkness. Ares curses Percy.

Percy returns the helm of darkness to Hades and takes a plane to New York City where he finds
Mount Olympus on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. Percy meets Poseidon and Zeus for
the first time and tells them everything that he knows and suspects. He tells them that he believes Kronos,
king of the Titans who ruled in the age before the Greek gods, is getting ready to wage war on the
Olympians (the Greek gods and goddesses). Percy has been having dreams about Kronos in which Kronos
talks to him. Zeus doesn't want to hear it. Poseidon tells Percy that he is proud of him and that he must
make a choice when he goes home to his mom's apartment in Queens, NY.
That summer at Camp Half-Blood, Percy has a great time living the life of a hero. He
procrastinates making a decision about whether he will stay at Camp Half-Blood year round, or whether
he will go home and live with his mom in Queens.

On the last day of camp, Percy is lured into the woods by his friend, Luke. Luke confesses to
Percy that he was the original thief of the master bolt and the helm of darkness. He tells Percy that he
serves Kronos and that Kronos is planning to defeat the Olympians and get rid of them. Luke vanishes,
leaving a deadly scorpion to sting Percy. Percy nearly dies from this scorpion bite, but is rescued by wood
nymphs who take him to safety. Percy's teacher, Chiron, nurses him back to health. Percy decides to go
home and live with his mother for his seventh-grade year.

In the critics perspective, the book itself is quite interesting due to the fact that the distribution
of the relevant happenings of the storyline are effectively displayed by author and was really captivating
in the minds of the very readers. Thus, it really expands the imagination of the readers through intense
actions and decision-making of the protagonist on conquering his quest with his friends on their noble
cause in retrieving Zeus’s master bolt.

As a matter of fact, this book is similar to J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series wherein Hogwarts
are classified into different sections according to their houses while the Camp Half-Blood is obviously
differentiated that are based on who your Godly parent is.
