IMAM AL-NAWAWI SAID AT THE END OF HIS CHAPTER OF APOSTASY, THAT HE WHO HAS COMMITTED
APOSTASY MUST REPEAT THE TWO TESTIMONIES
Posted by Sunni on May 9, 2008 • 2 comments

Imam al-Nawawi said in his book did Rawdat Taalibin, Volume 7, page 301:
Chapter about how fate repentance of the apostate, and also along these lines: how the original
disbeliever in Islam between:

Admittedly, Imam al-Chaafi'i that Allah be pleased with him, described his repentance, and he said
for that: it shows that there is no other god but Allah and that Muhammad is His
Messenger, and that he clear himself of any belief that is contrary to Islam.

Further down the same page, Imam al-Nawawi said:

And if his disbelief was denying any obligation or allowed to make something that is
forbidden [with the conditions he mentioned earlier in the chapter], then his Islam is not valid
until that 'he told the two witnesses, and he abandons what he believed.

Points to remember this quote:

 Imam al-Nawawi died in 676 AH, is there more than 700 years. He came from Nawa is a village about
80km from Damascus. It was Shaafa'is and has written several books of jurisprudence in the school Shaafa'is. The
book has Rawdat Taalibin is one of them. It is 8 volumes. The chapter on apostasy (ie things that are out of Islam)
spread over 21 pages, from page 283 to page 304.
 It was he who wrote "The Garden of the Righteous ( Riyad as-Saaliheen) and the collection of 40 Hadith if
known. It has always been considered a great scholar.
 Here he explains how the apostate should he return to Islam. This paragraph is the paragraph
at the end of his chapter on apostasy. Remember, this comes after almost 20 pages where he
described instances of things that are out of Islam. He says clearly that those who fell in the cases he cited
should return to Islam by saying the two witnesses and clear himself of who they thought was wrong, and change of
belief. Moreover, He attributes this to the Imam al-Chaafi'i, part of the Salaf.

Remind us why we should not say "ASTAGHFIROULLAH (" God forgive me) if you are an unbeliever.

Amin wa fik
He who has disbelieved shall not be forgiven by Allah, as evidenced by many verses in the Qur'an, as it
Ta 'Aala Allah says: {‫ '( }إن هللا ال يغفر أن يشرك به ويغفر ما دون ذلك لمن يشاء‬innallaaha yaghfirou the year youchraka bihi
wa maa yaghfirou Douna dhaalika liman yachaa ') which means: "Verily, Allah does not forgive other than we love
Him and He forgives what is below to whom He wills ". (Surat an-Nica 'verse 48).
It is for this reason that one who says a word of unbelief, (for example, it mocks the religion in a discussion, and this
word he said deliberately demean some of the things that religion, and therefore are out of Islam), it will be not
enough to say "ASTAGHFIROULLAH" (ie "God forgive me) in mind and be bailed out. As long as he is a kaafir will
not be forgiven by Allah.
The only way to get rid of his disbelief is for him to utter the two testimonies.
When he asks God to forgive him while he is still miscreant not only will not be forgiven, but he asked God to deny (ie
that God has already said he does not forgive the blasphemy, So the one who asks Him to do that, it's like asking God
to deny) and this is also kufr.
In short: he who has disbelieved shall say the two testimonies, is his only option.

IMAM AL-NAWAWI SAID THAT WHOEVER SAYS "THERE IS NO GOD BUT ALLAH WHO LIVES IN THE SKY"
IS NOT A BELIEVER

Imam al-Nawawi said in his chapter of apostasy (ar-Riddah), Volume 7 page 303:
Whoever said "There is no god except the one who lives in the sky", it does not
become a believer, and he is even if he says "There is no god except Allah, who lives in
the sky "because the fact of" live "is not about Allah Ta 'Aala.

God inhabits the sky is not in Islam. He says clearly that this is impossible on Allah. If God was in heaven, as some
believe the Imam al-Nawawi would not say that.

IMAM AL-NAWAWI SAID THAT ANTHROPOMORPHIC (A MOUCHABBIH) DOES NOT BECOME MUSLIM, EVEN
IF HE SAYS THE TWO WITNESSES, AS HE ALWAYS DOES LOOK LIKE GOD TO HIS CREATURES

Imam al-Nawawi said in his book did Rawdat Taalibin, Volume 7 page 302:
Certainly, if a Jew says anthropomorphic LLAAH The ilaaha illa (ie "There is no god
but God") he is not Muslim as it does not clear himself of all anthropomorphism and
that He said that there is nothing like Allah. And he adds, "and Muhammad is His
Messenger" then he knows that the Prophet Muhammad came with the negation of
anthropomorphism, then he became a believer, but if this is not the case, then it is essential
that clear himself of all anthropomorphism.

not become a Muslim, although he said the two witnesses, while it remains in him of
anthropomorphism.
 Be very careful about that because nowadays some say that someone can have in his heart of
tachbih and still be Muslim, so this is completely false. And know that the Islamic belief does not change with
the years or centuries or ages. The belief of Imam Abu Hanifah is of Muslims. The belief of Imam Tahawi also
did. That of Imam al-Baghdadi also. That of the imam-year Naçafi too. And that of Imam al-Nawawi and all those
who followed the path of righteousness until today as well. Then those who say it has changed forgers are not
listening.

I understand that is that ignorance is no excuse in Islam, ignorance on the foundation depth of belief and not what is
known evidence
and why should we necessarily make Takfir of someone who does not blame

Wa 'alaykoumou ssalaam
To answer your two questions together in cha Allah
We'll give you a sentence of Imam al-Chafiiyy, perhaps it will shed light on this subject. He said:
Allah names and attributes that nobody has the right to reject. Whoever did this after learning they are confirmed to
Allah, he is out of Islam. By cons, if dismissed before he becomes aware that it is confirmed, then his ignorance
prevented him from falling ds disbelief, because this can be confirmed through reason and reflection .
Why this sentence can it help us? Imam al-Chafiyy that Allah have mercy upon him, said that rejecting the names and
attributes of Allah is kufr, but one that has rejected them before knowing that it was in the texts do not leave Islam,
but WHAT WHAT? In the case of "what can only be confirmed through reason and reflection." The end of this
sentence tells us what? That S IF SOMETHING WERE THE REASON AND THE REFLECTION MAY BE
CONFIRMED BY ITSELF, so THAT WHICH DOES NOT EXCUSE REJECTS. Himself (Imam al-chafiyy) is known to
have declared a man named Hafs al-Fard disbeliever because he renounced the attribute of the word of Allah, which is
part of the attributes of Allah that it is possible to know by reason, such as:
-The Existence
-The Oneness
-The non-start,
-Non-end
It need not,
-Power,
It will,
-Science
-Life
-Sight
-Hearing
-And non-resemblance to the creatures.
Of course the attributes of Allah are not limited to just a few. Attributes of Allah are uncountable. But what are the
attributes of Allah are the foundations of belief. Whoever denies, it is not even Muslim. Even unknowingly. If he
denies that God exists, he is not Muslim. Then he said "But I did not realize that Islam was obligatory to believe that
God exists, I thought that being a Muslim was fasting and not drinking alcohol" it will not excused, because her sound
reason must tell him that as a creature he created and he needs a Creator, and his belief in the Creator must be firm.
Well for one who has the belief that God has a beginning. He may not say "But I was taught that God was created
when I converted, so it's the fault of those who taught me." Of course it is their fault, but also because its sound would
have to indicate that he as creature is created, it has a beginning, that the Creator did not start because it is He who
gives beginning to everything. It will not be excused because he brings in his heart a belief that contradicts the
foundations of belief.
The same one who believed that Jesus was the son of God, then he has abandoned this belief and he said the two
witnesses but he kept his heart in the belief that God is in heaven, we can imagine, He speaks with a gruff voice in the
movie "The Ten Commandments", he, although he said the two testimonies that contradicted his belief that the
attributes of Allah the reason could reach it No still is not Muslim.
So you understand why it is vital that other Muslims also consider the miscreant! Why? Because contrary to what
some believe, do NOT comment on his case IS TAKING PLACE. And which one? It's taking the position that this
person believes might be part of Islam, since he who is silent, he is saying: "This what it believes, perhaps that's part
of Islam, perhaps it is not one, I'm not saying, "So that means that he accepts that someone contradicts the
foundations of belief and is a Muslim. That's why it shows itself it does not know the basics of Islam, either, and
therefore it is not a Muslim either. As well for those who keep saying that we could believe that God has the organs
and it would still be Muslim. This is unacceptable. Imam al-Nawawi shows that if a Jew says both anthropomorphic
and preserved as evidence of tachbih belief, it is still not a Muslim (though he said the two witnesses). So how Muslim
by birth who adopted false beliefs remain Muslim in spite of the fact that their belief now contradicts the foundations
of Muslim belief?
Now what is the difference with the failure to fall into disbelief after denied something established and upheld, but we
did not know? This works if we knew could be known only through texts, not by reason seule.Donc to resume our
examples, one who denies Allah as the name of the name "al-Mou'min" because of its extreme ignorance of the
texts. Him when he said "Allah is" al-Mou'min "he did not agree and he has denied, because for him it means
Mou'min believer and the believers are people and it does not s not apply to God. That one verse it is shown in Surat
al-Hachr that mentions that God is al-Mou'min. If after that he continues to deny he is a kaafir even if new
convert. Because he knows that it has been revealed. But if after that he said "ah I did not know it was in the Qur'an
and that word had a meaning worthy of God" in this case it says "now you know, and you're not out of Islam. "But you
see here is talking about someone whose belief was correct, but has denied something that could not be faulted for not
knowing if he had never heard . While in previous cases, they do not even the minimum belief required to be
considered Muslims.
Similarly for those who are told that God has for attribute Al Yad. Whoever denies that God has for attribute al-Yad
when he knows that it is mentioned in several verses of the Qur'an as an attribute of Allah that one is a
disbeliever. Deny what has been revealed in the knowledge that it has been revealed, it's disbelief. Now if he in fact
when he said "God has the attribute al-Yad," him, he had never heard the verses that talk about this, and due to his
extreme ignorance of the Arabic language, he believed that yad in Arabic has the sense of "hands" (as in Arabic yad
has more than 14 directions, and when al-Yad Allah is attributed to this word can have several meanings such as:
power, compact, special thanks) and his hands are men who have, not the Creator, and for this reason, when he said
"God is to attribute al-Yad," he has denied this, then also it is shown verses. If after that he accepts, then it is not out
of Islam. If however it persists while the text was presented, it became a disbeliever.
We hope all this helps you. This is an important topic that should not be overlooked. Feel free to ask any further
questions on this topic, we will be happy to clarify further in cha Allah.
