This document discusses teaching methods, specifically the deductive and inductive methods. It notes that the deductive method involves the teacher introducing and explaining concepts to students, while the inductive method involves presenting students with examples to show how concepts are used. The author believes the inductive method is best for outcome-based education as it starts with what students already know about a topic and focuses on engaging students in the learning process, though it requires more time. In conclusion, as educators they must choose teaching methods that help students learn and achieve learning outcomes.

Teaching Method is the systematic way of doing something and it implies an
orderly logical arrangement of steps. According to Fernandez (2011), there are 9 types of General Methods or Time Tested Methods that can be used in teaching, but for me, the most prominent ones are the Deductive and Inductive Methods of Teaching. In a Deductive (Teacher - centered) classroom, this is where the teacher conduct lessons with introducing and explaining the concepts to the students and expecting students to complete tasks and to practice the concepts. According to Bob Adamson, “The deductive method is often criticized because: a) it teaches grammar in an isolated way; b) little attention is paid to meaning; c) practice is often mechanical.” However, this method can be an option in certain situations; like, when dealing with highly motivated students, teaching a particularly difficult concept, or for preparing students to written exams. While in the Inductive Method of teaching, the teacher presents students with many examples, showing how the concepts is used.
And if I were to choose between Deductive and Inductive, it would be the
Inductive Method. Since we are in an Outcome Based Education (OBE), I believe that Inductive is the best method that I can use in teaching because it begins with what the students know first about a certain topic. It also focuses on problems and details and end up with answers, generalizations, and conclusion. In addition, the learners are being engage more in the teaching learning process. Though, this method requires more time and less topic will be covered, it still helps the learners develop their high order thinking skills (HOTS) that they can use in the near future.
In conclusion, as a future educator, we must focus on the learning that we
impart to our students. It is not about how you complete the whole lessons, but about how the students learn from you. And in order for us to complete the tasks in teaching our students, we must choose the best methods, strategies and techniques to help our students to achieve the learning.
