Food waste
Thank you for supporting our new food waste service. We have seen a fantastic uptake
since food waste collections were introduced at the end of September last year. Collected
food waste is recycled and turned into agricultural fertiliser, but in order to protect our
environment further, we all need to consider how we can reduce our food waste.
According to the WRAP Love Food Hate Waste campaign, if global food waste were a
country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China and the US.
In the UK we waste 6.5 million tonnes of food every year, 4.5 million of which is edible.

known as ‘Chat benches’. Benches have been appearing in other parts of the country, and
now they’d like to see this initiative take off in Tunbridge Wells. The concept is a simple
one… anyone sitting on a dedicated bench is open to having
a conversation with someone else. It seems simple, but
striking up a meaningful conversation with someone who
wants to talk could make all the difference to their day, and
yours if you stop to say hello.
Loneliness and social isolation are topics very familiar in
the news these days, so with amazing enthusiasm to do
more locally from a group of residents, perhaps you’ll see
the first bench appearing soon. We’ll update our readers
about this in the next edition.
