My Making Journal

This
making journal
belongs to

makers
noun (may-kers)

The dreamers in colour, the tellers of stories,

the voices of rebellion, the stitchers of love.
You are the crafters, the makers, the dreamers.
A note on being a maker
To nurture our best making self we need to take time to connect mindfully
with the process of making. We need to practice self-care, and give
ourselves a well deserved pat on the back when we make the time to craft.
This journal is a place for you to do this. To set your making intentions,
scribble your project musings and inspire your best making self.
This journal is for you.

A maker’s prelude
To be a maker is to go on a journey - to imagine, to create and to bring
a story to life. When it comes to making something with your own hands,
beauty lies in the imperfections.

Promise us one thing, whatever you make, let go of the quest for
perfection. Cherish the quirks - the dropped stitches and the misshapen
hats - because mistakes are where the treasures lie.

Celebrate the inevitable blemishes and oddities. Because, like the humans
that craft them, the quirks are the very things that make them just right.

I hereby promise to love my makes, and my making self,

in all their perfectly imperfect glory.

Making lovely lists
Lists add a little order to this joyous creative world we live in.

They’re our way of saying “hey world, these are the things I want to do,
to accomplish, and to feel good about.”

It doesn’t even matter if we finish the lists, what matters is the act of writing
things down.

It’s about enjoying the journey, not the destination.

A list of list ideas

things you’ve made that you’re proud of
people you want to make something for
new crafts you want to try
skills you want to learn
your stash inventory (annotate things to reuse, recycle, regift)
yarns / products / stash you want to own
inspiring crafts people you want to follow
places you’d like to visit with your latest project in hand
your fave cookies (why not)
craft events or workshops you want to go to

P.S making with shiny thoughts
Here’s a bunch of positive ideas to
breathe shiny happy thoughts
into your making.

1. Pair your breathing with your stitching, sticking or making.

One stitch = one breath.
2. Set aside some dedicated screens-off time every week to make.
3. Organize your stash. Declutter. Re-gift.
4. Start making something without knowing where you’ll end up.
5. Pick some music to accompany your craft session.
6. Make with intention, really think about each part of the craft
journey.
7. Start a conversation with another maker and find out what inspires
them - it might spark a new friendship.
8. Treat yourself to your all-time-fave crafting snack.
(cookies + making = does it get any better?)
9. Share the love - teach someone to make something.
10. Make something for a good cause (check out local charities who
need donations, or make something for a friend in need).
11. Believe in yourself - jot down 3 awesome maker skills you have.
12. Share your amazing project with your fellow makers
(on the LoveCrafts community, on Instagram #LoveCrafts) -
and feel the love in return.

P.P.S making with intention
We’re coming to end of the Making Journal. But you’re always at the
beginning of another project, another step in your journey as a maker.

There’s always room to grow your making self.

This is a place to jot down your positive thoughts, aspirations and

intentions to nurture yourself as a maker.

This is my making philosophy.
