Discharge procedure
1 Remove the AC power cord. MAIN C.B
2 Connect a discharging resistor at an end of lead wire that has

clips at both ends. Connect the other end of the lead wire to
metal chassis.
3 Contact the other end of the discharging resistor to the
positive (+) side (+VH) of C101. (For two seconds) 3 4
C101 C102
4 Contact the same end of the discharging resistor as step 3 to
the negative (-) side (-VH) of C102 in the same way.
(For two seconds)
5 Check that voltage across C101 and C102 has decreased to
1 V or less using a multimeter or an oscilloscope. 2 2
Note: The reference numbers (C101, C102) of the electrolytic capacitors can change depending on the models. Be sure to check the reference numbers
of the charging capacitors on schematic diagram before starting the discharging work.

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENT -2/7
<TUNER Adjustment>
1. VT Check (MW)
Requirements
• Measuring instrument: Digital multimeter
Test points: VT, GND
1) Connect the digital multimeter between VT and GND.
2) Set the function to MW, and tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 1,602 kHz.
3) Check that the digital multimeter ranges under 8 V.
4) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 531 kHz.
5) Check that the digital multimeter ranges above 0.5 V.
2. VT Adjustment (LW)
Requirements: Same as above.
• Adjustment point: L942
1) Connect the digital multimeter between VT and GND.
2) Set the function to FM, and tune the receiving frequency of the unit at 144.0 kHz.
3) Adjust L942 so that the digital multimeter ranges at 1.3 ± 0.05 V.

ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENT -3/7
<MW/LW Adjustment>
Make the following preparations for MW/LW adjustment.
Preparations
• Standard Signal Generator (S.S.G.) / Loop antenna / Oscilloscope / Millivoltmeter / Dummy resistance (6Ω)
1) Connect the unit and measuring instruments as shown in the diagram below.
2) Position the loop antenna connected to S.S.G. and the one connected to the unit 60 cm apart.
5. Tracking Adjustment(LW)
Requirements: As instructed in preparations.
• Adjustment point: L941/TC942
1) Set S.S.G. to LW; carrier of 144 kHz with 30% modulation, and source at 1 kHz, position output at maximum.
2) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at LW144 kHz.
3) While monitoring the waveform at 1kHz through the oscilloscope, lower the output level of S.S.G. maximum (till a certain degree of
noise is monitored).
4) Adjust L941 so that the millivoltmeter points maximum.
5) Set S.S.G. to LW; carrier of 290 kHz with 30% modulation, and source at 1 kHz.
6) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at LW 290 kHz.
7) Adjust TC942 so that the millivoltmeter points maximum.
8) Repeat above steps 1) to 7) 2 to 3 times.
7. IF Adjustment (MW)
Requirements: As instructed in preparations.
• Adjustment point: L802
1) Set S.S.G. to MW; carrier of 999 kHz with 30% modulation, and source at 1 kHz, position output at maximum.
2) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at MW 999 kHz.
3) While monitoring the waveform at 1 kHz through the oscilloscope, lower the output level of S.S.G. maximum (till a certain degree of
noise is monitored).
4) Adjust L802 so that the millivoltmeter points maximum.

<FM Adjustment>
Make the following preparations for FM adjustment.
Preparations
• Standard Signal Generator (S.S.G.) / Loop antenna / Oscilloscope / Millivoltmeter / Dummy resistance (6Ω)
1) Connect the unit and measuring instruments as shown in the diagram below.
2) Connect the output of S.S.G. to the antenna input of the unit.
9. Tracking Adjustment
Requirements: As instructed in preparations.
• Adjustment point: L901/L902/L904/L905
1) Set S.S.G. to FM; carrier of 108 MHz with 75 kHz modulation, and source at 1 kHz, position output at maximum.
2) Tune the receiving frequency of the unit at FM 108 MHz.
3) While monitoring the waveform at 1kHz through the oscilloscope, lower the output level of S.S.G. maximum (till a certain degree of
noise is monitored).
4) Adjust L905 →L904 →L902 →L901→ L902→ L904→L905. Repeat adjustment (L905, L904, L902, L901) two or three
times so that the millivoltmeter indicates the maximum level.
