1. The first skyscraper was innovative because it used a steel frame capable of supporting not only the walls but also the immense weight of the 10-story building.
2. Science provides theories based on observations of the natural world, engineering uses this scientific knowledge to design and create solutions, and technology are the engineered products that meet human needs.
3. A scientist's goal is to understand and document the world through investigation, while an engineer's goal is to find solutions to problems and meet human and societal needs.
4. A product that does not function as intended is an important part of the iterative design process, as it allows engineers to identify issues and make changes to designs to develop the best possible

1. What was innovative about the first skyscraper?
It was one of the first of its kind to use a steel frame capable of supporting not only the walls but also the immense weight of the building. (10 stories)
2. Explain the relationship between science, engineering,
and technology. Science is the first part of the process where scientists examine the natural world and develop theories based on their observations, then, this information gained from scientists gives a base of knowledge which fuels engineers to create and design our world. Lastly we find the technologies which are products created by engineers used to tackle our needs and necessities
3. How are the goals of an engineer different from those of a
scientist’s? Scientist’s goals are to understand predict and document our world by investigating it carefully. In the other hand, engineers’s goals are to find solutions for the problems and needs of people and the world.
4. Why is a product that does not function as designed an
important part of iteration? A product which does not functions as expected is a very important part of iteration because this process consists in designing something and when a problem is found go back in the process and try to make changes in the design. Itineration allows engineers to try new thing and find the best possible solution.
5. How did industrialism change society?
Industrialism changed our society in a lot of aspects. Firstly it provoked a revolution in a lot of jobs which started to use machines that required specialized people to supervise and fix them. Industrialism also incorporated the chain production which permitted the increment of production of items which started to lower its price, this was very revolutionary because it made easier for people without much money to acquire whatever they needed. Lastly say that world’s population increased due to the increase of the overall standard of living. 1. Think about the science you have studied in the past or are currently studying. Give an example of something you have learned in science that an engineer might use to solve a problem. In Geology I have learnt the plate tectonics theory which explains how this plates are constantly moving and the consequences of their collisions.
2. Find an object in your community that is the result of
engineering. Explain how this object solves a social need. Car, this mean of transport solves the necessity of people for traveling from a place to another fast and comfortably having the capacity of covering long distances.
3. According to the unit, technology serves practical
purpose. What practical purpose would television serve? Television has the practical purpose of giving us information entertainment and help tools without having the necessity of going out of our houses to find those services.
4. If you wanted to conduct an experiment to determine the
temperature at which milk freezes compared to other liquids, such as water or juice, explain the steps you would need to make it a fair test. To make a fair test we need to put all the liquids under the same conditions without making them any alteration. Then we need to lower down the temperature until the substance freezes and then write down the results.
5. The author states that Digital Revolution has "opened up
a whole new world for human beings." Explain what that quote means, and give an example of an innovation that fits this description of technology. This quote wants to say that the new digital discoveries give us a infinity of options which can help us a lot to develop our world and change it in a positive way being we all connected by social media, internet, etc… A invention that fits this description could be internet or the IA.
