REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ON HAND WASHING

DESCRIPTION:

During my job at back home I have observed many of the physicians in hospital will not

follow handwashing protocol. In one of the scenario I saw the doctor performing wound

dressing without gloves and washing the hands it was so weird to see the health professionals

not following the hygiene.

FEELINGS:

I felt stunned to see this scenario because it is one of the cause for the transfer of the

infection. I observed and informed the physician to use hand sanitizers and gloves to prevent

the infection.

EVALUATION:

As health care professionals it is important to perform hand hygiene by using all the steps and

use of the five moments of hand washing especially the nurses and physician.

ANALYSIS

One of the article says the physicians will not follow the five moments of the hand washing

because of the lack of practice in their training period ( Wałaszek M, 2017). One of the

journal states that the residents were exposed to hospital acquired infection because of the

negligence of hand washing by the physicians ( Redelmeier D A, 2016).

THE CONCLUSION:

By reminding the physician to use hand sanitizers and hand wash is best effective method to

prevent infection to ourselves and others. As a nurse it is our duty to instruct the physician for

the clients safety as well the self. "If you ignore the differences, the intervention will not be

effective”, therefore the mandatory training should be conducted for nurses and doctors to

improve hygiene standards ( Tseng C L, 2018).

ACTION PLAN:

In future if I observe anyone not practising the hand hygiene especially physicians I will

remind them before providing any care to the client. It is our duty to practice handwashing

and prevent infection to self and others.
