Bora Bora Teaching Aide

What is the Game About?

• In this game you will explore and settle the island of Bora Bora and collect victory points by
o Using dice as worker placement to perform a variety of actions, such as,
▪ Building huts,
▪ Adding men and women to your tribe,
▪ Worshiping the Gods by building them a sacred temple,
▪ Sending priests to temples to influence the Gods,
▪ Collecting jewelry,
▪ And completing misc tasks

How Do You Play?

• The game is played over 6 rounds which consist of three phases


o Phase A – Roll & Place Die & Carry Out Actions
▪ Rolling your 3 dice and placing them on actions, round robin style as workers
• Actions are Expanding, Woman, Man, Helper, Temple, Build and Fish
▪ Action dice placement must be less than the existing die if present
▪ Expand Action
• Island dice placement must be equal or greater than pictured die
▪ Woman / Man Action
• Take the woman or man worker that is equal to or less than your die
▪ Helper Action
• Trade for various items according to the trade value shown on the
player board
o 1:1 Tattooing
o 1:1 Shell Collecting
o 1:1 Victory Points
o 2:1 Offerings
o 2:1 God Cards
o 2:1 Building Materials
o 2:1 Move Huts
▪ Temple Action
• Place a priest from you supply onto a spot equal or lower to your die
• Take Fire Bonus
▪ Build Action
• Remove any two adjacent building materials in your sacred temple and
replace with a building tile equal to or less than your die value
• Take Fire Bonus
▪ Fish Action
• Place any value die, no mater what die may be present, and
immediately gain 2 VP
o Phase B – Use Man / Woman Actions
▪ In turn order, use one man and one woman’s actions
• Matching women and men count as “one”
o Phase C – Assess
▪ Tattoo Track – Move VP based on location on track, and determine new turn
order. Stack players in descending order on “0”.
▪ Temple Track – Score VP for priests placed, player w/ most priests wins God tile
▪ Jewelry Tiles – Use new turn order and take turns buying jewelry
▪ Task Tiles – In new turn order choose one task tile to complete & score VP. If no
task tile was completed, choose one to discard.
• In new turn order, choose a new task tile.
▪ Prepare for Next Round
• remove all unpurchased jewelry
• remove and refresh all men and women tiles
• put out new task tiles

God Cards

o God cards can be used at any time during your turn by giving up an offering
▪ You can play two God cards of the same color and choose your God power
▪ You can play a God tile without making an offering and choose your God power
• Blue God (Phase A only)
o You can ad a die to an action tile, even if its value is the same as
or greater than the lowest die on that tile.
• White God (Phase A only)
o You can add a die to an action tile as if it’s value were a “6”. Do
not change the value on the die.
• Red God (Phase A or B)
o Allows you to immediately collect the fish bonus.
• Green God (Phase B)
o Double the effect of your man or woman tile.
o Activate a second, different, man or woman type.
• Yellow God (Phase C)
o Play to replace one of your task tile requirements.

Game End

• The game ends after 6 rounds.


o You complete your task, and then take another. At this point you have the chance to
complete all tasks in front of you.
o VP are then tallied.
How To Get Victory Points

• Moving along the tattoo track


• Sending Priests to the temple
• Fishing
• Using the Helper Action for VP
• Building your sacred temple
• Keeping God tiles (2 VP ea)
• Collecting your fish score using Red God
• Being the active hut on a region at the end of the game to get the fish bonus (1-6 VP)
• Collect jewelry (VP between 1-9) (6 VP for having 6)
• Complete your tasks (6 VP for 9 completed tasks)
• Fill your temple ceremony spaces (6 VP)
• Build all 6 ceremony tiles (6 VP)
• Have huts in all 12 regions (6 VP)
• Have all 12 man/woman spaces filled (6 VP)
