1 Course Description
Understanding of probability as relative frequency and axiomatically, the counting techniques,
concept of random variables, their characterization, mean, variance and moment generating
function, law of large numbers and central limit theorem, introduction to statistics, curve
fitting and hypothesis testing.

2 Main Topics Covered


• Basic probability concepts, conditional probability, Bayes’ theorem

• Random variable, probability density function, cumulative distribution function

• Specific random variable discrete as well as continuous

• Moments and moment generating function

• Law of large numbers

• Basic statistical concepts, samples and sampling distributions

• Parameter estimation, hypothesis testing and data fitting
