Thank you so much Kiana for taking a great lesson teaching our students the, ‘where’ during our writing session. You have great
confidence and I am glad that you felt comfortable to decide what lesson you wanted to run considering it was such short notice and
you have only been in our class 4 days.
● Began with great questioning from the previous session. The children were engaged immediately as you used their past knowledge
● Your resources were clear and ready for you to create a poster with the children.
● You used the graphic organiser that the children had begun so they were familiar with it and you demonstrated exactly what they needed
to do.
● You had a positive relationship with the students and you managed certain children's behaviour by being direct and redirecting what they
needed to be doing.
● You identified children that were absent from the previous lesson and gave them to me so I could get them up to speed which was perfect
- so you could help the others complete the set task.
● Excellent moving around the room getting to all students - and discussing and correcting/scribing their work.
● Great warning when it was almost pack up time - great for those students that need those warnings to prevent anxiety.
● Good share time letting everybody share
1. Scribe the places on the poster so some students that are not that confident in writing can copy your responses.
2. Differentiation - possibly seat some students that you know need more assistance together so you can spend a little more time together
working with them as a focus group.

Well done Kiana. Well prepared and the kids loved this lesson and were well engaged.
Next lesson when you say hands on top and give an instruction, make sure there are no more than 2 or 3 steps to remember. And pause before
you give the instructions and give some praise out “great 5 star listening”
Remember to praise children following instructions: “ Great listening ! Thankyou for following those instructions so quickly” “Great job”
Know Do Be….read it together as a class. Then get them to turn to a partner and tell a partner the know do be. You can even then get one
person to stand up and say the know do be in front of the class.
Maths lesson
Super well organised with resources ready, the lesson planned, everything ready to go. You are seen by the children as their teacher, and you are
stepping up and taking on the responsibility of doing the roll, prayer etc and behaving like a teacher. Well done!!
You are positive with the children; “Good work”, “Good job”
Great control of talking “hands on top” etc.
Your enthusiasm for teaching your lessons. You are interested in improving and receiving feedback from me. Well done!!
Great questioning
Good preparation for this lesson. Nice counting by 2s clip. Well done on referring to the Know Do Be. You are showing lots of enthusiasm for their
learning , talking to the chn and keeping your talk very positive and encouraging. Love it!! Your comments were related to the mind master...great
job. Exc timing. You rewarded 5 star listening with stickers. You can also use high fives or claps etc Thanks for doing the prayer and the roll. You
are certainly in charge and show so much ability for a second year student.
Writing- nice giving of instructions for the matching activity at the start...everyone was engaged.
● Next maths lesson, maybe you could find some good clips for practising counting by 2s. Make sure the clip shows the “manyness” of the
number. 2 to 20
● Also, next time you play celebrity heads, could you discuss some of the good questions you can ask about a coin. Eg “Is it bigger than 10?”
● When you praise children, you can be explicit about what they are saying or doing that is good.
● In the share time, refer to your Know Do Be and get the children to check in and tell you whether they achieved their “Know” for the lesson
● Remember your goals. Giving explicit feedback: “I like the way you….” Tracking their understanding...use the I can statements. I have
made a page in our maths tracking book.
Modelling how to write : model finger spaces, model size of letters, model how to stretch out the sounds in a word when trying to spell. All these
skills will come to you when you have more experience with teaching beginning writers. They need the skills explicitly taught.
Moving forward...
Let’s make some more goals. Possibilities: Giving explicit feedback. Instead of praise (good job/work), we can work on giving explicit feedback
that lets the students know exactly what they are doing that is great and that you want them to continue! That way they are know the behaviours
that are good for their learning more likely to continue it!! “I like the way you……” Use Mind Master thinking and the Know Do Be statements.
Tracking learning….recording who can recognise and say the names of the different coins.
Rewarding 5 star listening with stickers, Up that a bit more
Keep the same goals all this week

Well done Kiana. Well prepared and the kids loved this lesson and were well engaged.
Another good lesson Kiana. The students were engaged and learnt o’clock
Thanks for coming in with great enthusiasm for your lessons this morning. Also, you are pretty much running the whole morning now,
the prayer, roll, maths, writing…great job
Well done on reflecting on the children’s understandings ( they need more practise of the days of the week). Good teachers always reflect on the
students learning.
I liked the Adams family clip on the days of the week. Songs are a great way to remember things. You can utilise singing to remember o’clock if
you can find a good song.
Well done with delivering instructions, the chn were a bit chatty today…always after a CRT day.
Great tracking…you are getting around and recording the learning, then using this information to
Great timing…good momentum…it kept the interest going.
You explained o’clock well, in steps. The students enjoyed the games and activities, they were fun.
Well done on breaking up the instructions into stages, calling everyone back to the floor and giving the next lot of instructions.
Children were less talkative today as you stopped them and didnt accept poor listening.
Great tracking of skills…well done.
I like the way you move around in between the students supporting them as they work. You are very positive when they have made mistakes,
encouraging them to have another go.
Your questioning was engaging. You were animated in your expression. You also got the chn coming up and participating in the start of the
lesson a lot more than yesterday. That was great. Well done!!
The roll the dice game was good bc it reinforced the skill being taught and was fun. The pairs game was a good idea, but the kids got a little off
task. If you did that again, how could you improve the way they played memory?
Always have visuals up to match what you are trying to get them to understand. So , during the days of the week song, you could have the days
on the wb and point to them as you sing.
Remember not to accept children talking while you are giving instructions. Refer to the school rules and give out warnings.
May have to track the whole grade over two days bc it takes a while
Remember to wrap up your lesson with share time and a revision of the know. Its checking in and getting them to reflect on who was successful in
their learning.
Next time you do writing, lets discuss your lesson before the day starts so we can make sure you have all the resources ready.
When you model how to play a game, actually play the game in front of the class. By actually playing the game, those chn who weren’t listening to
your verbal instructions actually see how to play the game. Also, explain more slowly, bc you speak very quickly.
You need to keep moving around the classroom when they are playing games and working at their tables. This way you are observing who is on
task, who understand the skill, and you can stop problems that might occur in a group before they happen. Never sit down unless you are tracking
them and need to record.

Good clip.
Good questioning.
Chn were engaged for the modelled writing part and were really watching well. You covered all the skills they needed to think of when writing.
Good delivery of instructions...remember only give 2 instructions at a time, they cant remember more.
I would have helped Mia, worked together to do the sentence. In writing, she, Summer and Ana probably would be better off always writing with a
partner bc they are not capable of writing independently.
Also, writing is one of those activities where you need a follow up activity for early finishers.
