Blue Moon Spell?

Appendix - Terms and Items

Introduction
Drawing the power of the Moon to enhance our
own magickal power is something easy and very
helpful. Whether you are a Natural Witch or a
Wiccan, the Moon energy is always beneficial.

In this book I’ll bring 14 simple Moon Spells that

were published on my website, Santuário Lunar,
with exclusive illustrations. Alongside these, there
are 2 exclusive and personal spells we perform
every cycle (and I didn’t post them on the website).
With these Moon Spells you’ll be able to awaken
your magickal power if you are a beginner or
enhance yours if you are already walking on the
magickal path.

Each Moon phase is related to some specific

energies and we can take advantage of these while
we perform our spells. Similarly, for each phase, we
have different Goddesses who can be summoned
to help and guide us.

At the end, there are some explanations on some

of the items needed for these spells. If you are in
doubt or if you want to learn more about them, do
check those pages!
The Waxing Moon Phase
We all love when we can cast simple spells that
bring great results, right? The Waxing Moon energy
can help us achieve our goals, attract health and
obtain success.

Among all the Moon phases, the Waxing Moon is

great for casting spells related to solid ideas,
expanding horizons, and prosperity. In Wicca, this
phase symbolises the Goddess' Maiden face. She
is young, wild, powerful and unstoppable.

Ideas and projects tend to grow up now, so enjoy

this phase to achieve your goals and your success!
Waxing Moon Phase Goddesses
Below you’ll find some Goddesses to work with
during this phase:

● Artemis, Greek Goddess (Youtube video)

● Bast, Egyptian Goddess
● Freyja, Norse Goddess
● Inanna, Mesopotamian Goddess
● Lakshmi, Hindu Goddess (Youtube video)
● Oyá, Yorubá Goddess
● Pomona, Roman Goddess
● Uzume, Shinto Goddess (Youtube video)
● Venus, Roman Goddess (Youtube video)

Moon Cake for achieving goals

This is a very simple spell, so everyone can make it
for achieving their goals.

On one day during the Waxing Moon phase, bake a

cake! It does not need to be a complex cake, bake
a simple one! Before baking it you have to purify
yourself taking a shower using coarse salt or white
rose petals. While you prepare the dough, you must
think about your goals in a very happy way.

Visualise yourself with your goals achieved and be

thankful for having already achieved them. Now,
while it bakes, dance and sing or listen to songs
that make you happy. You can dance and sing
mantras if you prefer. You can also light some
incenses or some silver candles.

When the cake is ready, give the fairies the first

slice. You can leave it close to a tree for example.
Offer the other slices to people that are important to
you, this way your happiness will grow together
with theirs.

Today, many of us live in big cities and in

apartments, so if you can't find a tree close to you,
try going to a park. If there is no park close to you,
leave this slice on a plate during the night and you
can eat it yourself next morning.

Celtic Health
This spell is another simple spell to cast. It'll attract
health.

Necessary items:

● A White Candle and a platform where it can

be burnt
● Some Honey
● Some Milk
● Some Green Paper
Start this spell by lighting the white candle on a
platform (a plate, a candlestick, a glass...) and
writing on the green paper your wishes for health.
After this, say the following spell seven times:

“To the fairies

from the Tree of
Health I ask:
Blow to me the
wind of healing,
You who
transcend time
and space.
Wherever you
may be, blow
this wind so
mote it be!"

Close your eyes

and breath in
and out slowly.
Gently, blow
over the green
paper while you
visualise a shining green and orange mist coming
from the paper and involving you with its magical
health.

Thank the fairies and the Goddess. Now put the

paper below the platform where the candle is on
and leave it there until the candle is totally burnt.
Bury both the green paper and the candle leftovers
close to a tree and pour some milk and some
honey on it.

Professional Success
This spell is also a very simple spell and it can be
cast to find a new job or to improve your current
one.

Necessary Items:

● A White or Blue Candle

● Your favourite incense
● White Clothes (optional)
● An Athame, a dagger or a knife

To start, light the incense and meditate. Think about

how your new job would be or the things that could
be improved in your current job to make you
happier. Try to be very precise.

Take your Athame and

write "SUCCESS" on
one side of the candle.
Write "WORK" on the
other side.

Light the candle and put

your hands above it.
Now visualise your
wishes again and let the heat give them more
energy.

Do not blow away the incense nor the candle.

You can also add some amulets and stones around
the candle if you desire.

Additional Comment
This spell is very useful not only for achieving
success. Whenever you want to attract or banish
something, you can perform this spell replacing the
candle colours, text and in a different Moon Phase.

For example, if you want to attract love for your life,

you may write the word LOVE in a pink or red
candle and burn it during this Moon Phase or under
the Full Moon.

To banish some negative influence, you can write

what you want to banish or you can even draw a
banishing sigil on a Black or White Candle and burn
during a Waning Moon phase.

Whenever you cast a spell, keep in mind your

intentions and the chances of success are huge.
The Full Moon Phase
The Moon is shining at full power. These are simple
spells everyone can cast.

The Moon has great influence upon us. Her

magnetism changes the Earth's energies, affects
the tides and affects ourselves, including female
menstrual cycles, for example. Since ancient times,
witches aware of this energy make different kinds
of celebrations on every Full Moon. In Wiccan
traditions it is very common to make an Esbat.

During the Full Moon phase, the Triple Goddess

becomes a Mother. This is a great time to work with
intuition, love and prosperity spells. The Goddess
Power is at her peak and we can draw this to our
lives.
Full Moon Phase Goddesses

● Brigid, Celtic Goddess
● Chang’e, Chinese Goddess (Youtube video)
● Demeter, Greek Goddess (Youtube video)
● Durga, Hindu Goddess (Youtube video)

Rite to power up your intuition

You can cast this spell whenever you need to
improve your intuition.

Necessary items:

● 1 Mugwort incense
● 1 small box

Go to a calm place where you won't be disturbed

and light up the incense. While it burns you may
relax and start to visualise the subjects which you'd
like to foresee. When the incense is completely
burnt, take its ashes and keep them inside the
small box. Keep the box in a safe place and rub the
ashes in your hands whenever you want to improve
your intuition or to use your powers for divination.

Love rite
You can cast this spell to emanate and to receive
the energy of love.

Necessary items:

● 9 pink candles
● 1 rose quartz
● 1 cinnamon incense
● Rose essential oil
● White paper and pen

Write your love wishes on the paper during the Full

Moon night. Make a big circle with the 9 pink
candles, drop some rose essential oil on each of
them, light them up and sit in the middle of the
circle. While you're in the circle centre, light up the
incense and visualise the flames warming up your
heart and telling you that you deserve to be loved.

Take the rose quartz and pass it

through the incense smoke for three
times while saying: "I bring love into
my life". Blow the rose quartz an put
it over the paper with your love
wishes. Now you can leave the
circle, but don't blow away the
candles!

Next morning, burn the paper and

throw the ashes in the wind. The
candles can be thrown on flowing
water or you can bury them.

Carry the rose quartz with you and

you shall emanate an aura of love for
attracting love back to you.
Additional Comment
I personally never cast this spell, but a friend asked
me to teach her. She was facing a difficult moment
in her life and feeling much alone. She was
divorced, living with her baby and every new man
who would approach her would try to take
advantage of her very good financial situation.

She already had a Rose Quartz at home, but never

tried to use it. I lent her some Rose Essential Oil
and she gathered the pink candles and the
cinnamon incense.

During a Full Moon night she said she put her baby
to sleep and performed the ritual.

When I saw her in the following week, she was

virtually another person. Her smile was different.
She was happy and full of energy! She said that
during the rite she felt a very strong presence
telling her that she deserved to be loved and that
she should lose her fear of being used by someone
else.

A very simple rite was all she needed for accepting

love again in her life!
Prosperity rite
The spell can be cast to attract prosperity. It is also
a simple spell.

Necessary items:

● Cauldron;
● 1 silver coin;
● Flowing water.

This spell needs to be cast outdoors.

Fill up half of your cauldron with flowing water and

then put the silver coin inside. Put your cauldron on
the floor so it can reflect the Full Moon. Now move
your hands over it and say the following spell three
times:
“Oh Dear Moon Mother, I ask thee. Bring me your
wealth. Fill my hands with silver and gold.
Everything you shall give me I'll enjoy. So mote it
be!"

After this, throw the water on the earth and carry

the silver coin with you.

Personal spell: Bay leaves ignition

This is a personal spell we perform every Full
Moon.

Necessary items:

● A bunch of dried Bay leaves;

● A Cauldron;
● A Wooden Spoon;
● Something to set the leaves on fire.

A few days before the Full Moon night we pick a

bunch of Bay leaves and separate them. During the
Full Moon night we fill our Cauldron with all of them,
until there’s no more room.

Then we set them on fire. Use preferably cereal

alcohol. The moment we set fire we make our
prosperity wishes and we start visualising
everything coming into our lives and home.
The fire is very high, so we keep observing and
meditating on it until it starts to get low. In this
moment we start to stir the leaves using a wooden
spoon, so the leaves which were below will start
burning too.

Once again, the fire gets very high and we keep

observing and meditating on it, until it’s time to stir
the leaves again.

We do this until
there’s no more
fire. The whole
spell takes
around half an
hour to be
complete. When
stirring the
leaves, try to
leave room for
the fire to grow
again. If you
throw all the
leaves over the
fire at once, it’ll
be gone.

ACCESS NOW
The Waning Moon Phase
These spells alongside with the Waning Moon
energy, are perfect for cleaning, banishing and
purificating.

The Waning Moon depicts the Triple Goddess in

her Crone form. The Crone is the wise woman, the
embodiment of all her life and experiences. She is
now a complete Witch. While she knows her
current life is coming to an end, her wisdom allows
her to see further so she has no fear of death. She
knows that everything has to end, hence this is the
only way to begin anew.

The Moon represents the divine feminine, she has

great power over the tides, over emotions, and
energy of all living beings in general. When we get
to know and understand this power, we become
ready for our magical practice and then we can
choose the best periods for casting our spells.

● Kali, Hindu Goddess (Youtube video)
● Morrigan, Celtic Goddess
● Nephthys, Egyptian Goddess
● Tiamat, Mesopotamian Goddess
● Nyx, Greek Goddess (Youtube video)
● Hel, Norse Goddess

Cleanliness
This is a simple spell to clean the environment and
people.

Necessary items:

● 1 bottle with spray

● 1 bowl or pot
● 1 Onyx
● 1 transparent Crystal
● Some Water
● Some Cloves
● Lavender essential oil
● White Rose petals
● Peppermint leaves
Preparing the spell:

Take the bowl or pot and put enough water to fill the
bottle with spray later. Put the other ingredients -
Onyx, Crystal, 3 Cloves, 3 drops of Lavender
essential oil, some white rose petals, and some
peppermint leaves - into the bowl.

This mixture must be under the Sun during all day.

When the Waning Moon night falls, take the bowl
and drop only the
water into the
bottle with spray.

Now you have a

magic potion for
cleanliness. Use
the spray during
the Waning Moon
to clean places,
animals or
people. Spray it
to the 4 directions
when you want to
clean a space or
spray it on the
head of an animal
or person.
Banishing
This spell requires a Spell Bottle. It is also a simple
spell, but dedicate some more attention when
casting it.

Necessary items:

● 1 bottle with a cork;

● 2 coffee grains;
● 2 Rue leaves;
● A small piece of Snake Plant;
● Some Lavender leaves;
● White Rose petals;
● Some Garlic husk;
● Some pins;
● A piece of coal;
● Coarse salt;
● Black candle.

Put all the items inside the bottle

and take it, without the cork, to the
Waning Moon. Offer it to the
Goddess and summon her powers
into each item you put inside the
bottle. Now ask Her to banish all the
negative energy that may be
interfering in your life and in your
home. Put the cork and seal the
bottle with the black candle wax.
Leave the bottle hidden where no one can find it.
This spell must only be cast when the situation is
unbearable!

Additional Comment

Spell Bottles or Witch Bottles are ancient and they

were crafted for different purposes, mainly for
protection. Many of them were full of pointy and
sharp objects such as nails and needles.

If you feel that the situation is beyond unbearable

and if there is someone working against you and
trying to harm you, you can craft another Spell
Bottle for protecting yourself and to making things
change.

Use the link below to watch how to craft it:

http://bit.ly/SpellBottle

Purification
This spell is another very simple spell. You'll need:

● A symbol that represents the problem;

● Fire.
This is a very simple and powerful rite. This can be
done to get rid of a bad habit, idea or guilt that may
be in your life.

Take the symbol that represents your problem and,

during the Waning Moon night, throw it into a strong
fire. While it burns, visualise the problem becoming
ashes and disappearing from your life.

To find the right symbol you

just have to think a little. For
example, if the problem is
"eating too much", you can
throw a little bit of your
favourite food into the fire; If
the problem is "smoking", you
can throw a cigarette. If you
can't find a material item to
symbolise your problem you
can draw or write something
on a paper and throw it.

Personal Spell: Begone powder

This is a personal spell we perform every Waning

Moon to banish all the evil energy which may be
present inside our home.
To cast this, you’ll need:

● Begone powder ingredients;

○ Dried Rue;
○ Dried Rosemary;
○ Dried Sage;
● Mortar and Pestle.

Start by putting all the ingredientes into the mortar

and then use the pestle to crush and transform
everything into a single powder. Alternatively, you
can buy the powder version of these ingredients
and simply mix them.

During the Waning Moon

night, put a little bit of this
powder in the palm of your
projective hand (the hand
you write with)

Go to each room of your

house, raise your hand flat
open with the powder on it
and say:

“In the name of the

Goddess and under the
Waning Moon, I attract to
this powder every and all
evil energy which may be
present in this room”
This is intense. If there are too many bad energies
you may feel dizzy or horrified. But don’t worry.

After directing all the bad energies to the powder,

go to the closest window and say:

“May all these energies go back to the ones who

sent them here. Go!”

And blow the powder away with all your strength.

If you live in a small house, you can blow it just

once. If your house is a big one, you can cast this
spells in some rooms, blow it away, cast it in other
rooms, blow it away again and so on.
The New Moon Phase
The Dark Moon. The energy generated during the
New Moon is very strong and perfect for great
spells. However, it is not recommended for
beginners to cast spells in this period. Here are
three spells that can be cast without restrictions.

Everything that starts, one moment inevitably has

to come to an end and then start anew. This cycle
is celebrated in Wicca in many different forms. The
Lunar cycle is no exception. During the New Moon
phase, the Goddess becomes complete, She dies
and She is born again. Although the Moon is
invisible in the sky during this phase we know that
She's there with her power as She is in all the other
phases.

It is told that many Witches do not celebrate this

phase due to its mysteries. They prefer to resume
their work during the Crescent Moon. The Dark
Goddess's face brings her ultimate destructive
power as well as her immense constructive
strength. This phase is excellent to finish a cycle
and start it again.

Rite to remove bad energies

This New Moon Spell is a simple spell to protect
yourself against bad energies.

Necessary items:

● Apple peel;
● Some peppermint leaves;
● Honey;
● Hot water;

Make an infusion using the

apple peel and the
peppermint leaves. Mix iit
with the honey and drink the
tea while it's hot. Visualise
all the bad energies going
away from your body.
This tea will also create a shield to protect you
against these energies. During the Crescent Moon,
the shield will grow bigger, and it's going to reach
its maximum size during the Full Moon. Do not
forget to make it again during the next New Moon
phase if you think it's necessary.

Amulet to neutralize spells

To cast this spell, start crafting this amulet on the
first day of the New Moon and it'll take three days
to be complete. It may look difficult, but it is still a
simple spell.

Necessary items:

● 1 small black bag;

● Some Black Tourmalines or Onyxes;
● A little bit of Rosemary or Ginseng;
● 1 black ribbon or some black thread;
● Some water;
● Some coarse salt.

To start this rite, first you have to mix the water with
the coarse salt and put the stones in, so they can
be energized for 24 hours by the Moon and by the
Sun. Start this during the evening.

After this period, bury the stones and let the Earth
energize them for 24 hours more. The next day,
take the stones again and put them inside the small
black bag while you ask the Goddess to send all
the spells cast against you to the stones, so the
spells can be neutralized.

After this, put the herbs inside the bag and ask
them to protect you.

Now make 7
knots on the
black ribbon (or
thread) and use it
to seal the bag.
Dedicate it to the
New Moon and
keep it
somewhere safe
where no one
besides you can
find it.

Additional Comment
Crafting amulets is so satisfying that I love to have
different ones for different purposes.

Once, a friend gave us one to help us to survive

during a terrible time we were facing. I tied it to our
bedroom window and things started to change and
became normal. The problems - which were
created by neighbours - started to dissolve, by
themselves.

I also like to wear different stones and crystals as

amulets. So I craft some necklaces and then I
choose which one to use. For example, if I want to
be more inspired for writing, composing or creating
things, I usually wear a Lapis Lazuli necklace. For
physical strength, energy and virility, I wear a Shiva
Lingam necklace. And so forth.

I have also seen some people wearing amulets like

this one in this Spell, with different items. Don’t limit
yourself to this one. Let your creativity flow!

Rite to renew the spirit

This is another very simple spell. This is to be cast
every New Moon for renewing the soul and
becoming ready for the next cycle.

Necessary items:

● Orange incense (or another citrus fruit)

● Purple clothes (optional, but important!)

Light up the incense and sit in front of an open

window during the night of New Moon. Breath in
deeply for some moments and relax your body and
mind. Put your hands facing up on your lap and say
the following:
“From the deep of myself, my spirit is my guide
I'm full of confidence and I leave my fears behind!
I deserve my potential, I deserve to fulfil my
intention
I open my heart, I open my mind
The universal love can come to me
So mote it be!”
Lunar Eclipse
What happens during a Lunar Eclipse? During this
phenomenon, we have the junction of Goddess and
God, of light and darkness, day and night, etc. It is
also as if we had the 4 Lunar Phases at the same
time.

The Eclipse is a moment of extreme energy and

power that can be used to cast powerful spells.
Since the energy of the Lunar Eclipse is immense,
the act of casting some spells at this time is
recommended only for those who are already
accustomed to the practice of witchcraft. So, if
you're starting now, it's best to just contemplate the
Lunar Eclipse and ask for blessings instead of
trying something more complex.
Freedom, Strength, and Gratitude
This Lunar Eclipse spell is recommended for you
who find it difficult to get rid of situations, habits,
objects, or anything else that blocks your way. It will
give you strength to follow a new path and will also
serve to thank the Goddess, the God and your
ancestors for all the blessings they have always
provided you with.

For this spell you will need:

● Your altar;
● A White or a Black candle;
● A Musical instrument.

Start by creating your magic circle. Summon the

presence of the Goddess, the God or the elemental
from whom you identify with and that have some
relation to the purpose of the spell. Crone
Goddesses or Dark Goddesses are excellent for
this purpose.

You do not need to be outdoors, but if you can, we

always recommend to be in direct contact with
nature and with the Moon.

Light the candle. Get your musical instrument, even

if it is improvised. It can be anything that you have,
the important thing here is to feel comfortable with
it. Let the energy of the Lunar Eclipse guide your
feelings. Feel free to play the instrument in the way
you want. As you play, say these verses:

“In this Lunar Eclipse Night I

summon thee
Oh (Goddess, God, elemental...) ,
stay here with me
The power of the Moon together
with the power of Sun
Are giving me strength, for my
new journey has begun

I, (say your full name), am here

To honour my Goddess, my God and my ancestors
For everything they made me be

From my habits I am free (think about the habits

you want to let go off)
From my addictions I am free (think about the
addictions you want to let go off)
From my problems I am free (think about the
problems you want to let go off)

Under the penumbra I start a new path

Full of blessings, full of motivation
The Sun light shall be my guide
The Moon light my inspiration

I thank thee! I thank thee! I thank thee!”

Let the candle burn to the end. You can enjoy the
moment to celebrate in your own way: with a party,
with meditation or whatever you wish.

Remember to undo the magical circle.

Blood Moon
In brief, a Blood Moon is a phenomenon in which
we have a Total Lunar Eclipse, that is, the Sun, the
Earth and the Moon are aligned causing the Moon
to enter the shadow of the Earth, called Umbra.

But why is it called Blood Moon? Is there any

bleeding? What exactly is the Blood Moon?

Unlike the Blue Moon, when the Moon does not

change its colour, during a Total Lunar Eclipse the
Blood Moon changes its colour, getting a reddish
hue and therefore being popularly called the Blood
Moon.

This happens exactly because the shadow of the

Earth, the Umbra, is projected onto the Moon.

The Blood Moon is a phenomenon in which we

experience a moment of union between the
Goddess and the God. It is a moment of great
power and magic that must be experienced with
enthusiasm!

The term "Blood" is given because of the reddish

colouration the Moon obtains. However, it can also
be associated with menstruation once it is closely
linked to the lunar cycle.
During a Blood Moon, you can cast a spell to attract
prosperity and inspiration, so that energy flows like
the blood that keeps a living organism alive.
Prosperity and Inspiration
For this Blood Moon Spell you will need:

● Your Chalice;
● Your Athame;
● 4 red candles;
● Red wine (or juice of some red fruit);
● Your favourite incense (optional).

During the Blood Moon night, cast the magic circle

and stay in the centre of it in a comfortable place
for you.
Position the 4
red candles so
that they
represent the 4
directions and
the 4
elements.
Light your
favourite
incense if you
wish.

Fill your chalice with wine and dedicate it to the

Goddess. Concentrate on the Moon, letting your
mind connect with the energy of the moment.
Visualize the blood running through your body as
you watch the Blood Moon. Feel the heat. Feel the
life that runs within yourself.

Keep yourself in this state for the entire passage of

the Moon through the Umbra. You can also close
your eyes as you feel the power
within yourself.

When the Blood Moon returns to

normal, that is, when it leaves the
Umbra, insert your Athame in the
Chalice with wine and visualize the
power of the God joining the power
of the Goddess.

Raise the Chalice and say:

"The strength of the Goddess and the power of the

God flow within my body as well as my own
strength represented in my blood. I am divine and
deserve all the energy of prosperity, love and
fulfilment in the world. So be it and so be it!"

Drink the wine (or the juice).

Thank the Goddess and the God.

Let the candles burn to the end if they are still on.
Release the circle.
What is a Blue Moon?
In a few words, a Blue Moon happens whenever we
have two Full Moons in a single month. We usually
have 4 weeks each month and one Moon phase in
each one. The Lunar cycle has approximately 28 to
29 days and the calendar we use nowadays is the
Solar one, thus, the Blue Moon happens once in a
while.

The expression "once in a Blue Moon" is very

common and its meaning is just like the
phenomenon: something that is very rare to
happen. For us, Pagans, these events are great
opportunities to celebrate a very intense Esbat.

So, what is this all about? Is it blue? Why is it so

rare?

Many attempts to define a calendar were made

throughout the ages and this calendar choice is the
Blue Moon origin. We have 3 basic calendar
systems:
Lunar Calendar: The Moon cycles are extremely
important, the year has 13 months of 28 days in
this system. Extra days are added when it is
necessary;

Solar Calendar: The Solar position and the

Seasons of the year are considered leaving the
Lunar cycle aside. There are 12 months with 30
days each and, when it is necessary, one extra day
is added;

Lunisolar Calendar: This calendar system

considers the Lunar cycle, the Solar position and
the Seasons. Extra months are added when it is
necessary.

After many adjustments and considerations, the

Solar Calendar was chosen so we use it today.

What does it have to do with the Blue Moon?

According to the Lunar Calendar, we would have 13

months with one Full Moon in each month. With the
Solar Calendar, we have 12 months with 30 or 31
days each, so one of the Full Moons was
"excluded". Each Moon cycle has around 29,5 days
so, in each month of the Solar Calendar we have
one Full Moon. The base calculation between the
Moon cycle and the Solar Calendar is different, so
once in a while we have two Full Moons! We name
this phenomenon Blue Moon!
The Moon is not really blue on the Blue Moon, but it
can rarely get a bluish color (not necessarily on
these dates) due to volcanic activities or ice
crystals in the air.

This idea, however, is modern. The original idea

explains that there should be 3 Full Moons during
each Season. When there are 4, the third Full
Moon is the Blue Moon.

Blue Moon Spell?

The Blue Moon is a Full Moon, thus all the Blue
Moons are Esbat dates! As the Blue Moon is a rare
event, it is good to celebrate your Esbat in a more
intense way. Cast spells related to the Full Moon
occasion such as those for your achievements,
your success, your goals, for love, and for
prosperity.

Have a great Esbat!

Appendix - Terms and
Items
Apple peel
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Apple’s powers are: “Love,
Healing, Garden Magic, and Immortality”. Also,
according to him, “apple has long been used in
spells of love. The blossoms are added to love
sachets, brews and incenses, and they are infused
in melted pink wax, then strained out, to make
candles suitable to burn for attracting love.” In the
spell you find in this book, apple is mixed with other
ingredients, so we can assume that we are going to
banish the evil energies using the energy of love
and more.

Athame
The Athame is a magickal instrument used for
magickal purposes. It is similar to a dagger, but it’s
blade usually doesn’t cut. It is mainly used to direct
energies and for opening and closing the magick
circle.
Bay Leaves
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Bay has the following powers:
“Protection, Psychic Powers, Healing, Purification,
Strength”. Everytime we burn Bay leaves for
prosperity we are also asking for protection and
purification and, of course, we are attracting energy
and strength to receive and to maintain prosperity
and good work.

Black Tourmaline
According to Jennie Harding’s Crystals, the Black
Tourmaline can be used for “enhancing psychic
protection of the body and energy system, acting as
a shield against negativity”. For more information
about the Black Tourmaline, we recorded a video.

Candles
Candles are excellent tools to enhance our spells.
They work with fire, the element of transformation
and action. They are consumed by the fire, thus
attracting or banishing what we want. Some say
that whenever you light a candle, you open a portal.
So, before lighting one, dedicate it to a Deity or to
an Elemental being, so this portal will be secured.
Different colours can help you achieve your goals.
Cauldron
The Womb. Where everything is born, to where
everything must return. I think the Cauldron is the
number one item for every Witch. Inside it you can
perform many different kinds of spells.

Cinnamon
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Cinnamon has these powers:
“Spirituality, Success, Healing, Power, Psychic
Powers, Lust, Protection, Love”. It’s very common
to blow some Cinnamon powder every first day of
the month to attract prosperity. Cinnamon incenses
are great for material success and also for
protection.

Clove
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Clove can be used for: “Protection,
Exorcism, Love, and Money”. I always use Clove
for total protection.

Coal
Coal is a transforming ingredient. You can use it to
draw symbols and sigils, to write incantations, to
create art and to burn and transform things.
Coarse Salt
Coarse Salt is one the purest things we can find
here on Earth. It contains the Purple Light, which
can purify things and send evil energies away. This
ingredient is perfect for protection and having some
around your home is an excellent idea!

Coffee grains
Coffee is used for divination, for prosperity,
protection and success. Not only its grains, but the
beverage is also used in magick.

Colours
The power of colours is so immense that we see
them all the time in propaganda. They are not there
by accident. The magickal power of colours is
underestimated by many people. By attributing
colours to candles, for example, we can direct our
energies easily. Crystals and colours are also
correlated.

Crystal
Gifts from our Mother Earth. These natural
“instruments” have their own energies, just like
herbs and plants. It’s always good to have some
crystals around you.
Elementals
The Four Elementals are: Gnomes (Earth), Undines
(Water), Salamanders (Fire) and Sylphs (Air).
Working with them is light and pleasant. It is always
good to have some spaces in your house for them
like a garden, fountain, fireplace or a fixed place for
fire/candles and wind chimes, for example.

Esbat
Term used to describe a Witchy celebration under a
Full Moon. While we usually have one Esbat per
month (or two with the Blue Moon), we always have
eight Sabbats, which are the Solar Celebrations.

Download our ebook: The Wheel of the Year and

the Sabbats for a complete guide.

Fairies
Fairies are full of light beings often considered to be
Elementals, similar to Sylphs. Their energy is very
light and pure. There are many different kinds of
fairies, and some of them are not so friendly. Don’t
mistreat them.

Fire
The element of transformation, energy and
purification. Fire has these and many other
attributes.
Garlic
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Garlic is used for: “Protection,
Healing, Exorcism, Lust, Anti-Theft”. It was also
dedicated to Goddess Hekate and left for her as an
offering. If you need a powerful spell for dealing
with evil energies, work with Hekate’s powers!
Check a video we made with a tutorial.

Honey
Honey is used alongside with milk for prosperity,
abundance and health. Rituals in Imbolc are usually
made with these two ingredientes. They can be
poured on the earth for fertility.

Incenses
Incenses are used for a long time as a way to
communicate with Deities and spirits. It is said that
the smoke is capable of reaching the Gods and
delivering them our messages. Besides that,
incenses are made with herbs and flowers, so they
bring many different properties and can help us in
the practice of meditation.

Lavender
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Lavender can be used for: “Love,
Protection, Sleep, Chastity, Longevity, Purification,
Happiness, and Peace”. Lavender has also the
ability to bring prosperity and to attract consumers
and potentially help in selling things to them.

Mantras
Mantas are chants in which words and sentences
are repeated for achieving a specific goal. You can
create your own mantra or you can listen and chant
a great variety of mantras. The most common ones
are from India and they are usually dedicated to
Hindu Deities.

Milk (see Honey)

Milk is used alongside with honey for prosperity,
abundance and health. Rituals in Imbolc are usually
made with these two ingredientes. They can be
poured on the earth for fertility.

Mugwort
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Mugwort is used for: “Strength,
Psychic Powers, Protection, Prophetic Dreams,
Healing, Astral Projection”. Mugwort’s scientific
name is Artemisia vulgaris and the plant is mainly
associated with the Goddess Artemis.

Onyx
According to Jennie Harding’s Crystals, the Black
Onyx is used for “helping to restore the system if it
is overloaded because of excess pressure” and to
“encourage inner stillness and helping focus during
meditation”, among other things.

Peppermint Leaves
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Peppermint is used for:
“Purification, Sleep, Love, Healing, and Psychic
Powers”. You can also use Peppermint for
prosperity spells.

Pins
Pins are used in Witchcraft and Voodoo practices
for a long time. Similar to nails, pins have the ability
to direct energy and to stick these energies to
specific places or subjects.

Roses
Red Roses are associated with love, passion, self
care and inspiration. You can use Red Rose petals,
incense or oil for your spells.

The White Roses are associated with tranquility,

peace, purification, cleanliness and concentration.
You can also use the petals, incenses or oil.
Rose Quartz
According to Jennie Harding’s Crystals, the Rose
Quartz can be used to “support the heart in all
ways, easing emotional stress or regulating the
physical effects of stress, such as panic attacks”. It
also “encourages and awakens an appreciation of
beauty”.

Rue
According to Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of
Magickal Herbs, Rue is used for: “Healing, Health,
Mental Powers, Exorcism, and Love”. Rue is
excellent for banishing evil energies.

Sea Water
Sea Water is capable of washing every bad energy
away. If you live close to the beach, you’re probably
used to take some sea baths and performing some
cleansing. Taking some Sea Water to your home is
also a good practice.

Snake Plant
Snake Plant is known here in Brazil as “Espada de
São Jorge” (Saint George’s Sword) or “Espada de
Santa Bárbara” (Saint Barbara’s Sword). São Jorge
is related to Ogum and Santa Bárbara is related to
Oyá (Iansã). Both of them are related to protective
powers.

Triple Goddess
The Triple Goddess is the representation of all the
Woman’s faces in one: The Young/Maiden, The
Mother and The Crone. In many different cultures
we see the number 3 as a special number and her
faces are also common. Sometimes it’s not explicit,
but we can find this “triple” correlations among
Goddesses in all Mythologies. These faces are also
related to the Moon Phases: Waxing, Full and
Waning. The New Moon is considered to be part of
the “hidden” or “dark” phase.

Wooden spoon
The wooden spoon is an instrument used for mixing
brews and spells. It’s commonly used with a
Cauldron. If you have a good one, you can even
use it directly on fire. It won’t burn.
