An Analytical Overview of the International Accounting standards and
IFRS

IAS and IFRS Course No 501421

The principle objective of this project is to provide the students with the
opportunity to apply some fundamental concepts covered in the course to a
real life company. To achieve the project's objective, the following steps must
:be taken
Select a company of your choice ( i.e A company that you like for .1
whatever reason ). It would best if the company is GLOBAL / international and
.listed under IFRS, has a complex set of financial statements
.Search the internet to locate the company annual report .2
Download the report and save it on your computer ( desk-top, flash .3
.memory, or other types of electronic storage device)
: Locate the following items in the annual report and print them .4
a. The complete set of financial statements ( the comprehensive income
statement, the financial position, and the statement of cash flows) and the
.notes which accompanying the financial statements
.b. The auditor's independent report
Give the background information about the company you choose in a very .5
attractive manner and it is vital and it tells the long back history of the
.company performance
: Required
.a. The printed items need to be brought to class at all times
B. Take notes throughout the course as how different items discussed are
reflected on the financial reports of the company and write the necessary
.interpretation of the information
c. Consolidate all of your notes into one report and submit it for grading at the
.end of the semester
Important Notes
All work submitted need to be original (i.e, the work prepared by the .1
.student). Editorial assistance for English is permissible
The progress of the report will be assessed / monitored on a weekly basis .2
and a letter grade will be assigned . This condition implies that the project
must be completed gradually throughout the course, and not at the end of the
semester. Failure to comply with this condition will make the report ineligible
for grading
Copying from the annual report or other sources of information is .3
.considered as Plagiarism
The format , style , and written English of the final report will be evaluated .4
.and assigned a grade
You will be asked to do three assignment during the completion of the .5
.course and they are all related to the class project
