How to draw lips

STEP 1.
This is just a sketch I did of several different mouths and or lips that I was drawing while I chose the perfect one to do as a
lesson. I named some of the expressions that I thought would fit an everyday situation. Browse through it, and see which set
of lips is your favorite.

STEP 2.
This is not really a drawing step, it's more like a detailed description on lips and their shapes. I thought it would be helpful to
learn some good information aid you to drawing your lips better.
STEP 3.
Here is a really helpful step that tells you how you should detail or define your lips that you choose to draw. I talk about how
you should shade in your drawing.

STEP 4.
Here I explain how the top lip is bigger then the bottom lip in most cases. Sometimes, the top lip may be slightly larger than
the bottom, but personality I think that is a little rare.
STEP 5.
Okay, lets begin. Start by drawing two plus marks. This will be the guidelines for the two sets of lips I included in this
tutorial.

STEP 6.
You will use the middle guide, to help you draw the dip of the top lips form as you draw your top lips. It's almost like drawing
1/3 of an apple.

STEP 7.
You will now sketch in the middle line that is in a vertical direction. This is the line that separates the top and bottom lip.
STEP 8.
Now that these mouths are almost drawn, you can now sketch out the shapes of the bottom lips. The mouth to the right is
slightly open, which means you will have to draw a full shape.

STEP 9.
When detailing and definition your lips, be sure not to over do it with the sketchy detailing lines. The definition should be
light and subtle. Once this is done, the teeth need to be drawn in as you see here.

STEP 10.
This is basically the same step as nine. The only difference is that I am not giving you a tip. Instead you have to actually
detail your lips. Before you do that, make sure to erase the lines and shapes that you drew in step one.
STEP 11.
In the end, your sketch should look like the one you see here. Now you have some really nice plump looking lips. I hope you
learned something new today. Be sure to join me again for more drawing fun.

STEP 1.
Start with sketching the outlines. Draw this very lightly so you can erase if you make any mistakes. This step doesn't have
to be complicated as long as you can see the lower and upper lip. The upper lip is usually smaller and has the cupids bow
while the lower lip is wider. Add some lines to the lips to indicate the creases.

STEP 2.
Start adding some shading to the lips. Try to keep the area in the middle more white (especially on the lower lip). This is
where the reflection will be.
STEP 3.
Because of the scribbles, the lips probably look a bit messy. Blend the graphite and don't worry about the creases that are
disappearing. You can always redraw them.

STEP 4.
Keep repeating the last two steps. 1. add a layer of graphite. 2. blend the graphite. Do this until you're satisfied with the
darkness. Add more layers to certain areas if it should be darker. What can help to make the texture more clear is to sketch
the layers in the same direction as the creases.

STEP 5.
This is where we're going to add details. Use a pencil to darken the creases. Don't draw them too dark and make some of
the creases lighter than the other. Use an eraser (preferably with a sharp corner/point so it's easier to make details) and add
highlights.
STEP 6.
Add some shading to the skin area around the mouth. There's usually a bit of shadow under the lower lip Darken a bit more
of the line between the upper and lower lip as well. There's also often the "philtrum" which are those two vertical lines
between the nose and lips.
