Units of Measurement - Conversion Chart

The document provides information on standard conversion rates for various units of measurement used internationally. It includes conversions between metric and imperial units for length, weight, volume, and other quantities. Additional sections define revenue ton, twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) used in shipping containers, and how air shipment weight is calculated based on actual or volumetric weight, whichever is higher.

I. Measure of Length
1 meter (m) = 1000 millimeters (mm)
1 meter (m) = 100 centimeters (cm)
1 meter (m) = 10 decimeters (dm)
1 kilometer (km) = 1000 meters (m)
1 meter (m) = 3.28 feet (ft)
1 yard (yd) = 3 feet (ft)
1 foot (ft) = 12 inches (in)
1 inch (in) = 2.54 cm (cm)

II. Measure of Weight

1 gram (g) = 1000 milligrams (mg)
1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 grams (g)
1 pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz)
1 pound (lb) = 0.4536 kilogram (kg)
1 Metric Ton (MT) = 1000 kilograms (kg)

III. Measure of Volume

1 cubic meter (cbm) = 35.31445 cubic feet (cu. ft)
1 cubic foot (cu. ft.) = 1728 cubic inches (cu. in)
1 liter (ltr) = 1000 milliliters (ml)
1 liter (ltr) = 100 centiliters (cl)
1 liter (ltr) = 10 deciliters (dl)
1 hectoliter = 100 liters (ltr)

IV. Measure of Quantity

1 pair (pr) = 2 pieces (pcs)
1 dozen (dz) = 12 pieces (pcs)
1 gross (gr) = 144 pieces (pcs)

V. Other Conversions

A. Revenue Ton
Sec. 3.2. of CMO 41-2015:
“A Revenue is a shipping term describing the measurement on which the shipment is freighted.
1 RT is equal to 1 MT or 1 cbm, whichever is higher. Cargo is rated as weight or measure and whichever is produces
the highest revenue will be considered the RT. Weights are based on metric tons (MT) and measures are based on
cubic meters (cbm).

B. Twenty Footer Equivalent Unit (TEU)

1 TEU = 1 x 20 feet (ft) container van
2 TEUs = 1 x 40 feet (ft) container van

C. Chargeable Weight of Air Shipments

Whichever is HIGHER between the Volumetric Weight (VW) in kilogram and Actual Gross Weight (AGW) in
kilogram.

Actual Gross Weight (AGW) = Total actual weight of goods in kilogram as indicated in the Air Waybill
Volumetric Weight (VW) = The cubic measurement of goods based on its dimension (L x W x H) divided
by the corresponding cargo tariff factor established by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
IATA Cargo Tariff:
1 kilogram (kg) = 366 cubic inches (cu. in)
1 kilogram (kg) = 6000 cubic centimeters (cu. cm)
1 kilogram (kg) = .006 cubic meter (cbm)
