 Late Submission Penalty: If the assessment is submitted late without an approved
extension from the Unit Coordinator, a marking penalty of 5% of the available marks
will be deducted each day for up to FIVE working days. If the assessment is

submitted more than five days after the due date it will not be marked and be
awarded zero (0%) for the task. Please also refer to the Unit Outline – Penalties for

 Assignment must be submitted as a WORD document only. Assignments submitted
using other files types WILL NOT BE MARKED.
 You MUST use the company that you have been allocated to by the Unit Coordinator
in Week 3. Assessment that does not use the given company will NOT BE MARKED
and be awarded zero (0%).

PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of this task is to enhance and assess students’ skills in analysing construction
documents and interpret compliance, regulatory requirements and minimum standards for
the construction of a range of building types. This assessment task addresses the following
unit learning outcomes for this unit.
ULO1 - Explain, interpret and apply necessary compliance requirements and minimum
standards for the construction of low-rise buildings
Task Requirements
• Provide an overview of the building regulations included in the NCC BCA Vol 1 for class
2- 9 buildings with particular focus on ONE of the following sections of the code:
• Fire resistance
• Access & Egress
• Health & Amenity
• Energy Efficiency

PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of this task is to enhance and assess students’ skills in analysing construction
documents and interpret compliance, regulatory requirements and minimum standards for the
construction of a range of building types. This assessment task addresses the following unit learning

ULO2 - Explain the construction process for low-rise buildings.
Task Requirements
• From your research in Assessment 1a prepare a report (upto 6 pages) to outline the
regulatory and performance requirements applicable to those classes of the building and
should include applicable NCC requirements alongside the requirements prescribed by
the Australian Standards.

 A brief discussion regarding the purposes for each of the identified requirements should
be included (you should write your own understanding of the objectives of the regulations
rather than using the verbatim copy of the text from NCC or other sources).
 The details of the sources referring to the identified requirements have to be included in
the report (page number, code item, code number, etc.).
 Detailed assessment criteria is provided next. Students are encouraged to use this in
preparing their submissions.
