TREATMENT GUIDELINES
Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has published guidelines1 to treat COVID-19 patients

along with standard treatment guidelines with permission from local health authorities.
Below are the treatment approaches.
Prophylaxis: Genus epidemicus as recommended by the Ministry of AYUSH – Arsenicum album 30CH, one dose
in the morning empty stomach for 3 consecutive days. Repeat after one month if epidemic prevails.
Therapeutic aid for amelioration & mitigation: Remedies according to different stages of disease and
individualistic symptoms, which are given below.3,4,5
Mild condition
Aconitum napellus: Acute, sudden, and violent invasion, with fever; with state of fear, fright,anxiety due to
disease; mental restlessness.
Arsenicum album: Profound weakness with restlessness during fever and coryza. Acrid nasal discharge with
burning sensation of nostrils. Cough dry better by warm drink.
Bryonia alba: Bursting, splitting headache with coryza, as if everything would be pressed out. Dryness of
mouth, tongue, and throat, with excessive thirst. Cough, dry, at night; must sit up; worse after eating or drinking,
with vomiting.
Gelsemium sempervirens: Dizziness, drowsiness, dullness, and trembling with coryza and fever. Acute
coryza, with dull headache and fever. thirst with great sleepiness during suffering.
Rhus toxicodendron: Coryza from getting wet with extreme restlessness and continued change of position.
All complaints are better by warmth, dry weather and motion. Fever with bodyache which relied by continuous
motion.
Eupatorium perfoliatum: Occipital pain after lying down, with sense of weight during fever and coryza. Chill
between 7 and 9 am, preceded by thirst with great soreness and aching of bones.
Aconitum napellus: Acute, sudden, and violent invasion, with fever; with state of fear, fright,anxiety due to
disease; mental restlessness.
Ipecacuanha: Coryza, with stoppage of nose and nausea. Slightest chill with much heat, nausea, vomiting.
No desire for water.
Belladonna: Coryza; mucus mixed with blood. Throat dry, as if glazed; angry-looking congestion; red, worse on
right side. Tonsils enlarged accompanied with cough and fever. Great restlessness during complaints.
Camphora: It is suitable in some acute complaints attended with nervous excitement. In the mental state,
there is anxiety and extreme fear. Fluent coryza on sudden change of weather. Fever with chilliness but no desire
to cover.
Severe condition
Phosphorus: Great lowness of spirits. Dread of death when alone. Pneumonia, with oppression; worse, lying on
left side. Nose red, swollen, and painful to touch. Coryza; with inflammation (soreness) of throat and dullness.
Burning sensation in chest & nose. Desire for cold food and drinks.
Chelidonium majus: Coryza accompanied with liver complaints. While coughing pain in larynx and sacrum.
Rigor followed by heat and sorrowful, anxious mood. Deep-seated pain in whole right side of chest with
Pneumonia. Lungs full of mucus, great oppression, desire to change place, anxiety; dark red face; one ear cold
the other warm. Inflammation of lower lobe of left lung, cough and bloody sputum, dyspnoea and frontal
headache.
Veratrum viride: Profuse secretion of mucus from nose. Respiration difficult with nausea and slow between
the vomiting spells. Oppressed breathing on attempting to walk, irregular bowels, sleepless. Pneumonia and
pleurisy; pulse hard, strong, quick, or slow and intermitting.
Iodium: Right-sided pneumonia with high temperature. Hepatisation spreads rapidly with persistent high
temperature; absence of pain in spite of great involvement, worse warmth.
Camphora: Cool breath, as from the grave, playing upon hand held before mouth. Dry cough every forenoon for
two weeks. Pneumonia of old people, with sinking of forces, dry burning heat and dyspnoea; rattling breathing
indicating threatening paralysis of lungs.
Cinchona officinalis: Suffocative catarrh; rattling in chest; violent, hacking cough after every meal. Chill
generally in forenoon, commencing in breast; thirst before chill, and little and often. Pneumonia, and other
affections of chest, symptoms being worse on every other day. Pneumonia after haemorrhages, with bleeding
or with bilious symptoms, or incipient gangrene of lungs.
Lycopodium clavatum: Oppression of chest with shortness of breathing; worse in open air and after eating.
Catarrh on chest of infants ; rattling on chest, which seems full of mucus. Pneumonia, with rising of mouthfuls of
mucus at a time, of a light rust colour, stringy and easily separated. Nearly all complaints are worse between 4 to
8 p.m. and better by warmth and warm drinks.
Arsenicum iodatum: Feeble respiration, with plenty of dry rales over anterior surface of right lung and upper
part of its posterior surface. Pneumonia that fails to clear up. Cough dry, with little difficult expectoration.
Drenching night-sweats. Racking cough and profuse expectoration of a purulent nature.
Stannum metallicum: Great sore feeling in chest. Discouraged due to suffering. Obstinate acute coryza and
influenza with cough. Chest feels weak; can hardly talk.
Carbo vegetabilis: Pneumonia: third stage, fetid sputum; cold breath and sweat; wants to be fanned;
threatened paralysis of lungs. After disappearance of coryza, chest much oppressed, with wheezing and
rattling. Better, from eructation, from fanning, cold.
