Development of Regional Rural Banks in India

 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) are Indian Scheduled Commercial Banks (Government
Banks) working at regional level in various States of India. they have been made with a
perspective on serving primarily the agricultural areas of India with essential banking and
financial services. However, RRBs may have branches acknowledged for urban
operations and their area of operation may include urban areas too.
 The RRBs were established with the highest goal of developing up the agricultural
economy by giving, for the aim of development of agriculture, trade, commerce, industry
and other productive activities within the agricultural areas credit and other facilities,
especially to small and marginal farmers, agricultural laborers’, artisans and tiny
entrepreneurs.
 The establishment of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) was created to satisfy and to satisfy
the excess demand for institutional credit within the agricultural areas, particularly among
the economically and socially marginalized sections. so on supply access to low–cost
banking facilities to the poor.
 The role of these banks in economic development is inspected, their policies and
progress are evaluated, and proposals are given on how they're going to help improve and
elevate the weaker areas of society. This latter target has been to a superb extent
accomplished by the RRBs. Moreover, RRBs have assumed an enormous job within the
usage of varied uncommon plans, as an example , the Integrated Rural Development
Program.

Role of Regional Rural Banking for Rural Development:

• Identify the financial need especially in rural areas.

• to make a supplementary channel for the flow the central market to the agricultural areas
through refinances.

• to supply finance to co-operative societies, Primary Credit societies, Agricultural marketing

societies. Generating employment opportunities in rural areas and bringing down the worth of
providing credit to rural areas.
• Enhance & improve banking facilities to semi urban, rural & other untapped market. With these
objectives in mind, knowledge of the local language by the staff may be a crucial qualification
