MID-YEAR BREAK LAC SESSION- SCHOOL BASED- RETOOLING ON PPST-RPMS & PORTFOLIO ASSESMENT
ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
We, teachers, are the facilitators of learning. As a catalyst of learning, our presence ought to add flavour, vigor,
change and life in the classroom. Perhaps the idea that our learners have no choice over the kind of teacher assigned to
them can inspire us to be truly facilitative in our ways. That is the reason why, the Department of Education continues to
update trends in teaching and learning especially so in adaptation and in the pattern of professional growth and
development for teachers as well. In connection, the K-12 as a response to the changes and challenges of the modern
world has changed the landscape of teacher quality requirements in the Philippines. The current reform calls for teachers to
critically reflect on their roles and the expectations of them in the context of K-12 Education.
Santiago National High School embraces the current trend as a result of standardization for Philippine Teachers, in
fact, it spearheads its school- based retooling and information dissemination specifically on PPST-RPMS Electronic-Self
Assessment Tool) E-SAT held at said school last October 24-25. What is this E-SAT? This tool is designed for teachers to
reflect on the different objectives related to our professional work. It consists of 13 items that teachers will anlayze and rate
according to the level of capability and level of priority for development. The items meet teacher quality requirements
congruent with the Philippine K to 12 Reform and reflective of international teacher standards.
The said event has started with a registration in the morning followed by the lecture on the introduction of PPST-
RPMS and Portfolio Assessment by Dr. Natividad B. Reyes. There were lots of activities and workshops for teachers like
the organization of portfolio, e-sat and sat facilitated by Mr. Joseph Dulatre. The 2-day school based retooling reading on
PPST-RPMS aimed to capacitate teachers on the newly restructured system of performance appraisal, to enhance teachers
on the accomplishments of required documents needed in their individual performance commitment review form and to
prepare professional annotations in lieu of their means of verification (MOV’s) to be submitted during the rating period.
Classroom Observation Tool, Means of Verification and E-Sat as parts of the RPMS-PPST have been clarified and
well-explained by the facilitators and resource speakers as they have imparted sufficient information regarding on such. The
activities given in the 2-day seminar were congruent to its objectives.
The Santiago National High School is now ready and will always be ready for the PPST_RPMS. We will always be
ready to affect change to our leaners and to devote quality service because we believe that the changes brought about by
the national and global frameworks, such as this K to 12, necessitate the improvement and adaptability of education, and a
call for rethinking of the current teacher standards.

INTEGRATION OF GAME-BASED INSTRUCTION AND ADOPTATION OF DIFFERENT E-TOOLS IN TEACHING
ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
There is no such thing as better or best method. The best method is the method that works, the method
that is effective, the method that will enable teachers and learners realize the intended outcomes. The
effectiveness of a method in the instruction is dependent on many factors such as teachers’ readiness, learners’
readiness, nature of the subject matter and time allotment for each subject matter.
SNHS sees to it that quality education is being catered to the learners despite the prevalent change when
it comes to teaching strategies. In fact, one-day training has been conducted to cater the current needs and keep
the teachers abreast with prevailing updates on the instruction. One day is not enough to accumulate and decipher
all the information but it’s better to start and be ready for it even just for a short span of time of refreshing the great
minds.
The DCP Packages given by DepEd to SNHS were utilized in the said LAC session for integration of
Game-based Instruction and E-tools in teaching last October 25. This session was proposed by the two ICT
Coordinators in both Junior and Senior High School in the person of Mr. Joseph Dulatre and Mr. Judy Dumawa,
respectively. They have re-echoed to all the teachers what they’ve learned from the division training of such. The
session’s objectives were: to capacitate teachers with proper utilization of DCP packages in the integration of
game-based instruction, to enhance instruction through integration of different e-tools and produce outputs using
the different e-tools in the teaching-learning process.
The one- day training consists of two sessions with the topics , the Basics of game-based learning nad
basics of Online assessment discussed by Mr. Dulatre and Mr. Dumawa. Teachers found it fun when teaching with
game based instruction. It has been reiterated that the opening activities in the lesson are supposed to serve as
starters, as unfreezing activities to make the learners feel at ease, to motivate the students to participate and to
set the tone for the lesson. They are liken to ‘’preparing the ground” before sowing or planting. Dulatre added,
“opening activities serve as launching pad for the day’s lesson”. Therefore, they should be linked or related to the
day’s lesson. He emphasized that they are not just activities for students’ enjoyment or activities for the sake of
enjoyment. They are preparatory to the real thing. They also have motivational function.
The Integration of Game-based instruction can then be applied and be practiced in all the subject areas.
It’s quite the challenge is for the teachers to think the appropriate game relevant to the lesson. Teachers have
been also reminded that in the first few minutes of the lesson, they should have to “sell” their lesson.
What will help students “buy” it? Teachers should capture their attention ,connect their prior knowledge with the
new information that will show the relevance of the lesson to their lives and experiences.
At the end of the day, the SNHS teachers went home with a bright smile on their faces because of their
significant learnings. Bringing home the knowledge about the integration of game-based instruction, teachers will
strive for learners’ progress and development in an enjoying way of learning.

The Department of Education envisions of producing, ”Filipinos who passionately love their country and whose
competencies and values enable them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation”. Thus,
teachers play a vital role in nation building. Through quality teachers, the Philippines can develop holistic learners who are
steeped in values, equipped with 21 st century skills, and be able to propel the country to development and progress.( DepEd
Order No. 36,s.2013)
Santiago District believes that quality learning is contingent upon quality teaching. Hence, enhancing quality
teachers becomes of utmost importance for long term and sustainable nation building. In relation to the enhancement,
Simultaneous District Roll Out on PPST-RPMS was conducted last October 26-27 at Santiago District Hall which
necessitates the improvement and adaptability of education, and a call for rethinking of the current teacher standards
brought about by the shift of the curriculum.
The 2-day roll out was participated and has engaged all the teachers of Santiago district with of course with the
brains of the Schools Public District Supervisor,Dr. Avelina D. Gatdula. According to her, she defined RPMS as
Responsible, Performing patiently, Manage your own selves, and Serve with a heart. She also added that, teachers shall be
Conflict managers in their endeavour, knowing the behaviours of students and pupils is important, serve with a happy heart.
She concluded her message by emphasizing that all the things that we do shall be centered to God Almighty.
The presentation of the program matrix and house rules was done by Mrs. Eliza H. Sumalbag and Introduction of
the RPMS Manual for teachers and School Heads was given to Mr. Floriano E. Jacob preceded by the roll call for all the
participants. At 10:00 to 10:15, this has been allotted as the working break and lucky enough to listen to the message of the
EPS in English Sir Marlon Taloza. He then reminded all teachers that we need to accept and embrace all the changes that
come into our way because change is inevitable. The change shall start within ourselves first before affecting change to
others. Meanwhile, Session 1 with the topic about PPST was introduced by SPDS, Dr. Gatdula. She added that PPST
consist of 4 career stages, 7 domains, 37 strands and 37 performance indicators.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Faustino R. Rapadas enlightened the teachers about Module 1: RPMS tools. He
emphasized that this tool is essential in reflecting our performance as teachers and professionals. On the other hand, Mrs.
Merle C. Sadiwa talked about Module 2 for the last session of the first day about Module 2: Self- assessment tools (SAT)
Electronic (SAT). This SAT consists of 13 items that teachers will analyze and rate according to the level of capability and
level of priority for development. It has been further reiterated that the items meet teacher quality requiremnts congruent
with the Philippine k to 12 Reform and reflective of international teacher standards.
The day 2 of the roll out was opened through MOL, energizer and a recap of yesterday’s discussion by group 2 on .
It was then immediately followed the talk of Mr. Rapadas on Reporting of Electronic SAT results. Moreover, Mrs. Gloria
Loreta L. Binay-an had her lecture on Classroom Observation Tool (COT-RPMS). She discussed the different indicators
present in the tool.
Everybody is eager to learn and we still have 3 remaining sessions for the afternoon session for the last day.
Session 5 particularly focuses on Module 4: Portfolio Preparation and Organization was discussed by Mrs. Eliza H.
Sumalbag. The session aimed to identify the necessary requirements (MOV) for each objective and KRA, to organize
documents in a portfolio based on assigned RPMS tools and to appreciate a well-organized portfolio. Thus, teachers were
asked to organize and produce a well-crafted portfolio as an output of the lecture/session.
Dr. Honeylet Zamora, the Human Resource Officer of the Division of Ilocos Sur came along to monitor us with the
conduct of the roll-out. She delivered her message and pointed out salient features of the PPST-RPMS. She reminded
everybody to manage our time in sorting out the evidences and MOV’s needed in our mid-year and end-year review. She
also added that there are 12 objective to meet this year plus one Plus factor.
The session on Annotations was given again to Mrs. Sadiwa and Mrs. Sumalbag. They concluded that these are
very important because they are self-reflections, explanations and allows reflective-thinking.
The cups of knowledge have been emptied on the beginning of the seminar and believed to be full again of wisdom
after the lectures on PPST-RPMS. The closing ceremony was tasked to group 3 and the emcee was Mr. Christian Ea and
has been facilitated by other members of the groups. Impressions and message of thanks were also delivered from selected
teachers coming from different groups.
As what Aristotle once said, “ We are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act, but a habit”. Thus
pointing to the actuality that if we start on our little way the best practices we can do for our learners and if we do them
regularly, we can affect change and we can reach excellence that we can truly contribute in building the nation.
