ASKING IF YOU CAN GET SOMETHING

In most places, restaurant employees are paid mostly through tips, which are based on how well they
provide service.
This means that the employees will try hard to make you happy. Then, the best way to start an order is
saying a friendly greeting to start off the conversation.

Hello! How are you today? Hey there, how’s it going?

When most native speakers order something, instead of saying “I want...”, they ask:

Can I get a coffee? Can I order an Americano? May I have a Cappuccino?

This sounds less demanding and can help the flow of the conversation.
