 ASSIGNMENT QUESTION / SOALAN TUGASAN

PURPOSE / TUJUAN
The purpose of this assignment is to assess learner in explaining the concepts and philosophy of
Linux operating system based upon the current situation, the benefits and drawbacks, and foresee
what will the future of Linux.

Tujuan tugasan ini adalah untuk menilai pelajar dalam menerangkan konsep dan falsafah sistem
operasi Linux berdasarkan situasi semasa, faedah dan kelemahan, dan meramalkan masa depan
Linux.

REQUIREMENT / KEPERLUAN
For the past number of years, Unix-like operating systems such Linux, the BSDs and others, were
successfully used as workstations and servers. And yet, a community of keen users and observers
had noticed the potential for growth in new directions. It is said that around 2015 and 2016, there
were major moves of Linux towards the next millennium especially Linux distros. There are some
good features of Linux as people say that for a limited or non-professional use of Linux, the
performance of Linux is indeed shining as a desktop OS – e.g it runs with malware free. But,
somehow some people say Linux distros are not ready for the desktop and yet there are
issues have affected the Linux kernel (for example the core of Linux distros and Android). For that
reasons, as a potential user of Linux, you should document the following:

 Find out the success stories of Linux.

 Describe the current scenario of Linux distros performance.
 Discuss the advantages and disadvantages/obstacles of Linux.
 Predict the future of Linux and Open Source in the coming years.

Sejak beberapa tahun yang lalu, sistem operasi seumpama-Unix contohnya Linux, BSD dan lain-lain
telah berjaya digunakan sebagai stesen kerja dan pelayan. Walau bagaimanapun, komuniti pengguna
dan pemerhati yang berminat telah menyedari potensi suatu pertumbuhan baru. Dikatakan bahawa
sekitar 2015 dan 2016, terdapat banyak langkah utama Linux dibuat ke arah milenium yang akan
datang, khususnya Linux distro. Terdapat beberapa ciri yang baik dari Linux kerana ramai mengatakan
bahawa untuk kegunaan terhad atau tidak profesional Linux, prestasi Linux semestinya cemerlang
sebagai OS Desktop – contohnya ianya adalah perisian bebas malware. Tetapi, terdapat sesetengah
orang mengatakan Linux distros tidak bersedia untuk desktop dan ada beberapa masalah yang telah
mempengaruhi kernel Linux (contohnya teras Linux distros dan Android). Oleh sebab itu, sebagai
pengguna Linux yang berpotensi, anda harus mendokumentasikan perkara berikut:

 Selusuri kisah kejayaan Linux.

 Huraikan senario prestasi Linux distro.
 Bincangkan kelebihan dan kekurangan / halangan Linux.
 Ramalkan masa depan Linux dan Open Source pada tahun-tahun mendatang.
