REK1 and REK2 Processor boards

The REK1/2 consist of the computer motherboard
RGP2 and the EPROM module EPM. They are
interchangeable and are allocated their functions
via their board slots. The REK1 is responsible for
controlling the main drive and works together with
the motor control board MSK (brushless main
drive) or the SRK (d.c. main drive). The REK2 is
used to control the entire press.

Processor board REK1/REK2

General
REK1 and REK2 are inserted in the computer
plug-in unit.
The processor board REK1 is a ”single-board
computer” which effects the open- and
closed-loop control of the main drive (brushless
main drive or d.c. main drive). The REK1 is
equipped with a 80186 microprocessor. The
computer motherboard RGP2 and the EPROM
module EPM form the REK1. The EPROM
module EPM is a memory. It stores the program
(software) of the press control system. The
EPM is plugged onto the computer motherboard
RGP2 and together they form the processor
board REK1.
REK2 is identical in design with REK1 and
carries out the same functions. REK1 and
REK2 are interchangeable. The function is
allocated dependent on the board slot (REK1
main drive control, REK2 press control).

11
Overall control system REK1/REK2 Processor board

Software versions
The EPROM modules EPM on the identical
processor boards REK1 and REK2 have the
same software versions.
If the processor board REK386 is used (instead
of REK2), the software versions of the EPROM
modules EPM on REK1 and REK386 must be
different.
REK2 can only be replaced by REK386 if the
software version of REK1 was updated.
REK386 can, however, not be replaced by
REK2.

Exchange of software
If you want to use REK386 instead of REK2
and carry out the necessary basic initialization
(settings: straight printing, max. sheet size, pull
lay on O.S.), remove the SSK before turning on
the main switch. It is possible that the servo-
drives move to undefined positions. If neces-
sary, change the sheet size and the variant
code. Afterwards insert the SSK again while the
power is off.

Signals to and from the power converter board SRK

The exchange of data and signals between the
processor board REK1 and power converter board
SRK is effected via different interfaces and control
lines:
– serial interface,
– parallel interface.
Serial interface
The data exchange between REK1 and SRK is
effected via the peripheral IC USART on the REK1
and via a serial interface.
Parallel interfaces
To guarantee a fast data exchange between SRK
and REK1 two parallel data ports are used which
are independent of each other.
Via port 0 data blocks are transmitted from the
REK1 to the SRK such as:
– setpoint values voltage regulator,
– voltage setpoint values,
– speed setpoint values,
– setpoint values current controller,
– current setpoint values.
Via port 1 data blocks are transmitted from the
SRK to the REK1 such as:
– actual voltage values,
– actual current values,
– actual speed values.

– It generates the bus clock for the entire control
system.
– It generates the signal /PFAIL2 which reports
when the supply voltage for the electronic
components which perform control functions is
too high or too low.
– It receives the signals from the 16 analog
inputs and transmits them to the control
computer REK2 / REK386.
– It provides the serial interface for the commu-
nication, e.g. with the servo-drives.

Overall control system SAK Memory analog board

Function
The memory analog board SAK is equipped with a
battery-backed write and read memory (RAM). In
this RAM data is stored which may not be lost
when the press is shut down (e.g. totalizer reading,
variant code, presettings).
Via another memory (dual-port RAM) the processor
boards REK1 and REK2 or REK386 communicate
with each other. On the SAK a clock signal is
generated for the control centre (REK1, REK2 or
REK386). Only when this clock signal is present
can the processor boards communicate with each
other.
Apart from this, the SAK receives the signals from
16 analog inputs. This analog section and a serial
interface are controlled by a processor. After the
initialization, the processor board REK2 or REK386
transmits the program for this processor to the
SAK memory.

Interfaces
Parallel interfaces
In the initialization phase, the control computer
REK2 or REK386 transmits the program code
once to the SAK. Apart from initialization and test
routines, the program code contains modules for
the handling of the 16 analog inputs and the serial
interface and for the transmission of data to the
control computer (REK2 or REK386).
In its main program the processor of the SAK
constantly receives the signals from the analog
inputs and places the acquired data into a
memory. Thus this data is available to the control
computer (REK2 or REK386).
Apart from this, data is exchanged at defined
intervals between the SAK and the control
computer by which they check each other’s correct
functioning.

Serial interface
The SAK is equipped with a serial interface which
is operated by a special interface IC. Via this
interface the SAK provides the link between the
servo-drives and the control computer. Via the
memory of the SAK the control computer passes
current parameters to the servo-drives (via the
servo-drive control board SSK or SSK2). In the
opposite direction and via the same route, the
positions of the precision potentiometers (pull lay)
are returned to the control computer.

Inputs and outputs

The inputs of the SAK can be divided into two
groups:
– analog signals,
– digital signals.

Analog signals
These signals are 16 input signals which are
grouped together in blocks of 8 signals each. This
division refers to the different functions and the
evaluation of the relevant analog signals.
The 8 differential inputs monitor the correct
functioning of the power supply units which supply
the voltage to the electronic boards.
Digital signals
The digital signals are input signals and bus
signals which communicate in both directions as
well as control inputs and outputs of the memory
analog board SAK.

Basic initialization
After a software exchange or the exchange of one
or several processor boards, a basic initialization
must be carried out. For this basic initialization the
press must be set to straight printing, max. sheet
size and the pull lay must be on the O.S. To avoid
faults, we recommend to take out the SSK or
SSK2 before switching on the press. Afterwards
switch the press off again and re-insert the
SSK/ SSK2.

SAK2 Memory analog board

Function
The memory analog board SAK2 is in the
computer plug-in unit REE. It is a revision of the
SAK. The SAK2 can replace the SAK, but not
the other way round. The SAK2 is characterized
by a higher accuracy of the analog section.
