SPEECH:

CYBERBULLYING: Australia

Good Evening dear Parents!

I’m so glad to have you here in my conference about cyberbullying in Australia.

Today I am here to introduce you in a global problem called cyberbullying and how
some institutions are affected by it. The cyberbullying is every were from
institutions like schools to universities and sometimes between employees in
companies, but today I would focus in schools.

Every day the technology is more effective in terms of make our lives easier, even
if you are a child or an adult. But not everything in the technology is good or useful
cause everything in the live has its pros and cons. There is a problem of new
generations in terms of the using of technology specially in terms of bullying.

All of us in a point of our lives hear about this term, but do we really know what is
it? From people who don’t, the cyberbullying is a type of bullying that is done
through the use of technology. For example, using the Internet, a phone or a
camera to hurt or embarrass someone usually phsicologically using photos or
messages, is characterized because it can be shared widely with a lot of people
quickly, which is why it is so dangerous and hurtful.

There are many consequences of cyberbullying. The children that are abused tend
to have things like school absenteeism, abuse in the consumption of substances
harmful to health, depression and other psychological problems, development of
low self-esteem, changes in behavior, deteriorated relationships with their parents
and in extremely cases, suicide. In children is very common because they care so
much about what people think about them, so if a child is bullied it will feel alone,
guilty, rejected, unsafe, confused, ashamed and many other thinks that are the
reason why suicide rates have increased. In Australia, educational institutions
apply sanctions like suspicion, expulsion and even fines for abusers, but in some
cases, things have gotten out of control since the children think that nobody will
understand their situation, and for that kind of thoughts is that the communication is
affected in a negative way. In this case, what could parents do to have a better
communication with their children? This is a problem that many parents have, and
is important that their children trust their parents, even in insignificant things, so
that when a bigger problem arrives, the communication is very strong.

Does the cyberbullying is the same as traditional bullying? Although the

cyberbullying and bullying, have many similarities, they are not exactly the same.
The cyberbullying can represent a form of bullying at the moment when a minor (or
more than one) begins to carry out harassment and aggression actions against a
classmate. However, Cyberbullying is not always carried out by a school partner.
As we have said, access to the virtual world in a more or less autonomous way
exposes the minor to a greater number of people than in the real world.
To finish the conference today can be said cyberbullying is a global problem which
affects many children and adolescents, In a country like Australia cyberbullying has
a great effect on schools which makes this problem very common, but several of
the cyberbullying concessions can be prevent with an accurate communication and
a lot of comprehension.
