DEACON ORDINATION

This is always a very moving ceremony

and this year we are ordaining these great men of God
to join our Deacon Ministry:

 Great Teaching
William A. Ward said: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good
teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The
great teacher inspires.” We have various teachers and teaching
ministries in our church. More importantly than learning new
ideas and insights is when we are drawn closer to God. We are
to be like those who heard Peter’s message at Pentecost: “They
gladly received His word” (Acts 10:41). They embraced Christ
and then acted upon that truth by being baptized in water and then steadfastly
“continuing in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship.”
Our Bible & Life Group ministry and our midweek Bible study offering in Women’s
RefresHer and EnricHer and Men’s Band of Brothers ministries help us to grow
in the Lord through His Word. Like those in the early church, truth is best learned
in community (“in fellowship”). We help you to forge new links of love. After all,
“We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren” (1
John 3:14). Also, like the early church, we “continue in prayers.” It is in these small
groups that you develop meaningful relationships with those who care about
you enough to pray for you. Consequently, we continue to encourage all people
to not only attend worship services but to be involved in Bible teaching groups,
whether you meet in a home or in a church facility. As we offer new classes this
season, you have new opportunities, particularly a fresh chance for those of you
who have not been involved.
I look forward to seeing all of our Band of Brothers at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel as
we build relationships with other guys around the tables and continue our study
about “Acts-tion Heroes” from the New Testament book of Acts. Janet looks
forward to teaching Hebrews in RefresHer this week along with our daughter,
Kristin. Whether ladies can attend on Tuesday morning or Wednesday evening,
you will hear great teaching and find great fellowship at either time. We believe
that it is not so much what we are pouring into you as what we are planting. We
hope that these seeds will bear much fruit and then be sown in others.
Last week we honored Ms. Beverly Day, our wonderful Preschool Director, who
has served with us for 15 years. She has not been teaching subjects but children,
molding lives, planting seeds, and helping families. Thank you, Beverly, for your
faithfulness and hard work.

Kidz Town Worship

It is our desire that Jesus be the focus in our worship services. Therefore, in
consideration of others desiring to worship with limited distraction, we ask
each person to please do the following:
- Please turn your cell phone off or set to vibrate.
- Please remain in the worship center (except
in the case of emergency) once you have entered
to worship.
- Should your child become unsettled or noisy during
the worship service, please take your little one to
the Fellowship Hallway, the Commons, or the
preschool ministry area in the Education Building
where you can comfortably watch the service on a
television monitor.
