SHRINKAGE (Cl. 6.4.2.

6 of IRC:112)
The total shrinkage strain is composed of two components, the autogenous shrinkage strain and the drying shrinkage strain.
The value of the total shrinkage strain εcs is given by

𝜀 =𝜀 +𝜀

εcs is the total shrinkage strain

εcd is the drying shrinkage strain
εca is the autogenous shrinkage strain

AUTOGENOUS SHRINKAGE
The major part of the autogenous shrinkage strain develops during hardening of the concrete in the early days after casting.
Autogenous shrinkage can be taken as a function of the concrete strength.

εca ,autogenous shrinkage strain = 0.000085

The development of autogenous shrinkage with time can be taken as:

𝜀 (𝑡) = 𝛽 (t) 𝜀

, where
𝛽 (t) = 1 - exp (-0.2   𝑡 )
where, t is in days

DRYING SHRINKAGE
The drying shrinkage strain develops slowly, since it is a function of the migration of water through the hardened concrete.
The development of the drying shrinkage strain in time can be taken as:
