Postgraduate Composition Student — University of Manchester (2018 - Present)

I developed good communication skills and workshopping techniques through

composing for a variety of professional musicians including Psappha, Quatour Danel,
Trio Atem and Distractfold. These compositions were workshopped and subsequently
recorded live in concert, highlighting my strong engagement with the outer musical
community.

My PhD portfolio studies involve engaging with a variety of concepts involving time as a
pre-compositional method, this includes the philosophy of Heraclitus and Socrates to
control parameters in my compositions.

Recent compositions, such as my work for the virtual choir Vox Ex Animo, emphasise
collaboration and constructing a piece of music that is tailored for the performer. This
includes experimental workshops based on sketches and been flexible as a composer,
where I have developed a keen open mind towards rehearsals in which I am unafraid to
be flexible with my musical ideas.

I have a diverse portfolio of compositions of instrumental and vocal works, ranging from
dramatic song settings of poems by William Blake to my large orchestral work The
Fanfares of Time. This has given the necessary skillset which include part preparation,
effective word settings, and clear typesetting.

Committee member of Manchester University Music Society, where I programmed and

organised the Lunchtime Concerts as well as assisted with the Opera production. This
gave me practical skills in organising rehearsals as well as sourcing props and costumes
for the opera production.

Gained recognition outside of Manchester University, through being accepted onto the
Peter Reynolds Composition Studio and the Advanced Composition Course as part of
MusicFest (both postponed to 2021 due to Coronavirus). Where I was going to
compose for GBSR Duo, Mad Song and The Carducci Quartet as part of these festivals.
