School Contract With Parents and Students

SCHOOL STUDENT TEACHER PARENT CONTRACT

Flagview Intermediate, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs
agree that this contract outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the
responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and
parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2020-2021.

School Responsibilities

Flagview will:

Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment
that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards
as follows:

 Hold monthly parent nights to offer parent education on helping with homework and
incorporating subjects (math, English, reading, science, etc.) into home life as well as educating
families about online school resources.
 Keeping parent-teacher communication open and meaningful.
 Providing opportunities for parental involvement in the classroom.

Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact
will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

 Conferences will be held twice a year minimum, in the fall and spring. Parent conferences may
be held at any time to discuss student progress, parent concern, etc. at the discretion of teacher
and parents.
 Communication will always be open and available between parents, students, and teachers,
within appropriate communication boundaries.
 Bilingual staff will be available for families who do not speak English.
 Both parties’ opinions on compact as it currently affects student, parents, and teacher working
together towards student’s achievement will be discussed and altered accordingly.

Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will
provide reports as follows:

 Planners will be sent home daily with a layout of what was done during the school day as well as
with important information on events, grades, etc. planner is to be signed by parents each night.
 Thursday folders will be sent home weekly with work samples, as well as current letter and
percentage grades in each subject.
 Teachers will keep open communication with parents via email, text, call, etc. about student
progress, learning, behavior, etc.

Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe
classroom activities, as follows:
 Notices will be given frequently and timely to parents about volunteering and participating in
school activities.
 Teachers will invite parents into classroom to help with daily activities as well as participate in
lessons.

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

 Create a plan for time management: Academics, relaxation, family, sports


 Review online grading system together weekly and/or daily if needed
 Discuss homework assignment expectations. Check finished work prior to sending it back to
school.
 Discuss something good that happens each day.
 Discuss something that was challenging or thought provoking with student each day.
 Keep a chart based on some area of struggle for student so student can witness growth and/or
effort
 Practice good hygiene (hand washing, nose blowing, appropriate bathroom usage)

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the
State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:

 Use recording device (planner, folder, document) to begin discussion with parents regarding
academics
 Talk about things well done with parents.
 Discuss a challenge with parents, brainstorm solutions, possible outcomes
 Take homework/schoolwork home to “own” effort/ability.
 Be responsible to get notes home to responsible adult.
 Choose one or two things that are important as extracurricular, work so that these are not an
extra challenge for themselves and/or parents.
 Apply proper hand washing, nose blowing, and appropriate bathroom usage.
