SUBJUNCTIVE WISH

Penting untuk diingat bahwa pengertian dan pola kalimat ‘wish’ sama dengan ‘if-clause’ atau ‘unreal condition’.
Contoh :
1. Present unreal condition : If I were rich, I would be very happy (kenyataan =I am not rich, I’m not very
happy)
Sama dengan Present wish : I wish I were rich (kenyataan = I am not rich)

2. Past unreal condition : If you had been to the party last night, you would have
enjoyed it (kenyataan = you were not in the party, you would not enjoy it)

Sama dengan Past wish : We wish that you had been to the party last night (kenyataan = you were not in
the party last night.
Berikut adalah pola-pola kalimat ‘WISH’, penggunaan ‘that’ boleh dipakai atau tidak dipakai.
FUTURE WISH
WISH (Simple Past) REAL CONDITION (Simple Present)
1. Subject* + wish + (that) Subject + Could + Verb 1 + Object Subject + can’t + Verb 1 + Object

2. Subject* + wish + (that) Subject + Could not + Verb 1 + Subject + Can + Verb 1 + Object

Contoh :
1. We wish that you could come to the party tonight (Kenyataan = You can’t come)
2. I wish that the he could not trick me. (Kenyataan = He can trick me)
3. I wish that you would stop saying that (Kenyataan = You probably won’t stop)
4. She wishes that they would not disturb her. (Kenyataan = They will disturb her)
5. She wishes that she were coming with us. (Kenyataan = She is not coming with us)
6. I wish that he were not telling lies. (Kenyataan = he is telling lies)

PRESENT WISH
WISH (Simple Past) REAL CONDITION (Simple Present)
1. Subject* + wish + (that) subject*+ verb 2 + object subject + do/does + not + verb 1 + object

2. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + did not + verb 1 + object subject + verb 1 + object

3. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + were + nouns/adjective subject* + BE 1 + Not + nouns/adjective

4. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + were + not + adv. of plc./adj. subject + be 1 + adverb of place/Adjective

1. I wish that I had enough time to finish my homework. (Kenyataan = I don’t have enough time)
2. We wish that he bought some food. (Kenyataan = he does not buy some food)
3. They wish that they didn’t have to go to class today. (Kenyataan = they have to go to class)
4. I wish that he didn’t come to my house. (Kenyataan = he comes to my house)
5. She wishes that he did not leave her. (Kenyataan = he leaves her)
6. I wish that he didn’t disturb me. (Kenyataan = he disturbs me)
7. I wish that she were kind to me. (Kenyataan = she is not kind to me)
8. I wish that he were not lazy. (Kenyataan = he is lazy)
9. He wishes that she were at school. (Kenyataan = she is not at school)
10. She wishes that he were not in the bar. (Kenyataan = he is in the bar)

PAST WISH
WISH (Past Perfect) REAL CONDITION (Simple Past)
1. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + had + verb 3 + object subject + did + not + verb 1 + object

2. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + had + not + verb 3 + object subject + verb 2 + object
3. Subject* + wish + (that) subject* + could have + verb 3 + obj. subject + could + not + verb 1 +

4. We wish that we had had more time last night. (Kenyataan = we did not have more time last night)
5. She wishes that she could have come to the wedding party. (Kenyataan = she could not come to the party)
6. She wishes that John could not have finished the test. (Kenyataan = John could finish the test)
