Background:
My father has passed away during the Somali civil war in 1998. The civil war moved
families away from their homes. It destroyed markets, schools, governmental buildings,
hospitals, business centers and all that mattered to society. For over two decades, it
killed brother, father, a teacher, a doctor, an engineer, and many other important pillars
in the Somali society that our world will not be as beautiful without them. I wish to bring
this to an end.
I attended Ahmed Dhagah public primary school which is located in Hargeisa, and I
finished it in academic year 2009/2010 with a grade of 90% of grading scale. In 2013 I
graduated from one of the best private Secondary schools in Hargeisa, Sunshine first
school. And again I scored a decent grade “B+”.
For the first four semesters, my mother paid the tuition fees, unfortunately, after those
four semesters she couldn't afford to pay the tuition fees. That is why I am looking for a
chance of getting a part-time job. I started working in a mini restaurant small business,
so I work for them eight hours each day and the owner of the restaurant agreed with me
to pay my university fees.
The reason why I am applying this Master-card foundation scholars program at AUB is
to assist my family financially and reduce the financial burden on them, and also to
make my dreams come true, because I came from a low financial situation family, my
parents barely afford the high tuition fees to go abroad universities. Also, I am the first
person to go to University in my family. In addition, there is lack of tertiary education
intuitions that can provide me with the same assistance to become an engineer.
I come to see a solution in finding the leader that directs his people with open-
mindedness, patience, critical thinking, fairness, I think we need a person that closes
the gap of distrust amongst the Somali clans by mirroring the characters above in his or
her every day’s life. With the assistance of the society, I believe to participate bringing
an international investors to increase job creation and reduce poverty and youth
unemployment. The presence of international investors will increase the skills and
knowledge of the youth which will promote sustainable economic growth.
To get well equipped knowledgeable generation will adapt to technological and
economic development and will do less in civil war as young people become educated,
and tribalism and community-based society will be reduced to a knowledge-based
society and order, and we establish technical and vocational training institutes.
