36) Pneumatics
Engine Bleed Air System: (Normal Operation)
Engine Bleed Air is taken from the 7th Stage and 10th Stage Compressor
The (Air Press) is 37 PSI or More (7th Stg (IP) Air is Used and--(Air Sent to PRV)
The (Air Press) is 36 PSI or Less (10th Stg (HP) Air Is Used and---(And) (The)
The (HP) Valve (Opens) to allow (10th Stage HP) Air to be Used ---- (Then)
Note: Valve Spring Loaded (Closed) (Pneumatically Operated)
And is (Connected) to the (PRV) via a (Sense Line) and (Elect)
To a (Control Solenoid)
The (Cooled Air) is sent to the Cross Bleed Valve (To Be Used for A/C Sys)
49) APU
(Garrett GTCP 36300)
1. Normal Start – Sequence of Events
3. Both (Cntrs) Energize the Starter – (Turns) & (Clutch Engages) & (APU Spools)
8. At 50% (N) Speed the (ECB) (if above 20,000 feet altitude 58%)
A. (De-Energizes) the (Start Contactor) 5KA
B. Starter (Dis-Engages)
C. APU – (Accelerates) ------------- (N) Speed and EGT Rise
D. The IGVs (Open) to the (Fully Closed position of 15 degrees) (50% to 95%)
D. (De-Energies) the (Back-Up Start Contactor) 10KA ---- (after 5 seconds)
12. When you shutdown the APU, the ECB reacts as if it were an Auto Shutdown
Note: While the (RAT) is being extended – APU Starting is (Inhibited) by the
Battery Charging Limiters (BCLs)
Which prevents the (Start Contactor) from being energized (for 45 seconds)
P2 – Sensor – R/H side inlet duct – Provides Input signal to the ECB , to Modify the schedules
of the Surge Valve and FCU
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Load Comp I/L Temp Snsr – Located Below the IGV Actuator – Input Signal to the
ECB , which is used in the reverse flow protection logic.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inlet Guide Vanes: Cont by the ECB – Which Drives the Act--Cont Bleed Air Flow
a. Uses Fuel Pressure to (Drive them open and closed)
b. Remain (Closed) when APU is (Below 50%) - (Ign on between 7% and 50%)
c. 10 Degrees (Open) (Between 50% and 75%) (N) - (starter disengages @ 50%)
d. Minimum (Open Position) for the APU to Start = 22 Degrees
e. Maximum (Open Position) While the APU is Running = 88 Degrees open
f. After APU is Started = 88 Degrees (Open)

g. While the APU is Running (They Open & Close) (Depending on Load)
h. Generator Load = Close - (To Give priority to Electric Power)
i. Drive Load = Open - (To Give priority to Pneumatic Air)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Load Bleed Valve – Allows Bleed Air to the A/C Systems – Cont by the APU Bleed
p/b Switch. (Note: When the Cross Bleed Valve is in Auto) it will also move to the position of
the Load Bleed Valve.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Surge Control Valve – Dumps excess bleed air (that is not needed from the APU)
Into the Exh Air – Located in the (T-Duct) R/H side of the APU (Ctld by the ECB)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Engines
Engine Sensors and Switches
a. N1 – Provides N1 rotation speed ind to ECAM--- (2 O’clock) (R/H Fan)
b. N2 – Provides N2 rotation speed ind to ECAM--- (dedicated alternator)
c. Nacelle Temperature Sensor –Nacelle Temp (6 O’clock) (Core)
d. Eng Bleed Pressure – (Ref: Engines)
e. Fuel Temp Sensor - fuel temp in the FCOC---(FCOC outlet)
f. Fuel Press Diff Sw – fuel press at FCOC O/L---( scav filt 8 clock)
g. Fuel Flow Trans – provides fuel flow ind---(under the FMU) 7 -clock
h. p2/t2 Sensor - measures I/L press / temp---(Nose cowl) (12 O’clock)
i. p5 sensor – measures ex press---(Exhaust Struts)
j. p3/t3 – measures press / temp at HP (sends data to EEC)-(HP Comp (outlet)
k. p5 (4.9) – measures exh press (located on exh struts)
l. p2.5 sensor & t2.5 –provides air pressure from the L/P comp exit to AIDS
m. p12.5 sensor – provides air pressure from fan exit to AIDS
Note: All of the Actuators are controlled (via) the EEC (except)
The BVA (slave) (the slave is controlled (via) the master
Note: This tapped fuel is sent through the EEC and routed
Fuel Flow Meter – Located L/H Fan (7 O’clock) Position (under the FMU)
Installed in the (fuel line) (between the FMU and Dist Valve)
Provides Fuel Flow (Indication) to the ECAM
(Fuel press drives an imp (which spins and gives the indication)
The fuel is then routed to the Distribution Valve
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Distrib Vlv- Lct R/H Fan 4 O’clock Position (Btn the Fuel FM and Fuel manifolds)
Distributes an equal amount of fuel to (10) Fuel manifolds / 2 nozzles ea
Allows for (2) Fuel manifolds to (store) some fuel @ engine shutdown
To help supply the fuel @ next engine start.
The fuel is then routed to the Fuel manifolds
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuel Manifolds – A total of 10 manifolds (each manifold supplies 2 fuel nozzles)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fuel Nozzles – A total of 20 fuel nozzles are installed – The fuel (mixes) with the air and then
it is Sent to the Combustion Chamber
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
