Pinakbet or pakbet
-is a popular vegetable dish in the
Philippines which originated in Ilocos
Region, the word pinakbet is derived
from the Ilocano word pinakebbet,
meaning “shrunk” or“shrivelled”.
Dinengdeng- (also called
inabraw) is a dish of the Ilocano people similar
to pinakbet.

 The Spanish arrived in the 16th century and
established Christian missions and
governmental institutions to control the
native population and convert them to
Catholicism.

“Ylocos” which meant from the “Lowlands”

 Before the formation of the Cordillera


Administrative Region, Region 1 also
included the provinces of Abra, Mountain
Province, and Benguet. Before Region 1 was
modified by Ferdinand Marcos, Pangasinan
was not part of the region.
 Came into existence on September 24, 1972 when
provinces of the Philippines were organized into 11
regions by Presidential Decree No.1 of the Integrated
Plan of President Ferdinand Marcos.

its eastern borders are regions of Cordillera
Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley and
in the south is Central Luzon. To the west north is
the West Philippine Sea.

 La Unión, "The Union" in Spanish, was formed in 1850 when
the Spanish colonial government of Governor-General Antonio
Maria Blanco merged the three southern towns of Ilocos Sur
province, the nine northern towns ofPangasinan, and the
western towns of Benguet to the east (Eastern Pais del Igorotes
in the Cordilleras). Pangasinenses were the majority in the new
province because most towns had been in the Province of
Pangasinan.

 On October 29, 1849, Governor General Claveria issued a


"promovido" to fuse the Pangasinan-Ilokos-Cordillera areas
into "La Union".

Bolikewkew Rice Terraces
This rice fields located at Bolikewkew, Delles, Burgos is a peek of Banaue Rice
Terraces. The mountains surrounding these terraces are good venues for hiking
and mountain climbing.
Bauang Beach. Line along the fine grayish sand of Bauang
Beach are establishments providing accommodation and other
amenities from Baccuit to Pagdalagan. The beach is 6 kilometers south
of San Fernando City.
San Juan Beach. Approximately 8 kilometers north of San
Fernando City, the beach stretching from urbiztondo to Ili Norte is
dotted with tourism-related establishments. The surf in the area is ideal
for surfing during the months of November to February.

 Energy
The 1200 megawatt Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant, 345
megawatt San Roque Multi-Purpose Dam, and the Northern
Cement Corporation are all located in Pangasinan.

 Marine
Pangasinan is a major fish supplier in Luzon, and a major
producer of salt in the Philippines. It has extensive fishponds,
mostly for raising bangus, or “milkfish”, along the coasts of
the Lingayen Gulf and the South China Sea. Pangasinan’s
aquaculture includes oyster and sea urchin farms.

The major crops in Pangasinan are rice, mangoes, corn, and
sugar cane. Pangasinan has a land area of 536,819 hectares,
and 44 percent of the total land area of Pangasinan is devoted
to agricultural production.
