The power of language nutrition refers to the positive effects brought by
language nutrition to the brain development, health, and future academic achievement of a child. Language nutrition refers to language-rich interactions that facilitate development. Studies have shown the more words spoken to a child, the better the child’s reading and writing skills, understanding of speech, and vocabulary size.
2. What is the influence of language nutrition on language development?
Since language nutrition is gained through social interaction, social interactions
are therefore crucial for a child’s neurodevelopment. Research has shown that a higher number of words spoken to a child contributes to increased vocabulary development, enhanced language and speech processing, and improved literacy outcomes. In other words, shared dialogic reading positively influences children’s literacy/language skills.
