Subject: RE: Allow Holding Duration for Fatigue

Phan:

The fatigue damage calculated by OFFPIPE 3 is the damage that occurred during the time period (3400 seconds = 0.944
hours) considered in the analysis, based on the assumed S-N curve (DNV E).

The maximum calculated value for the fatigue damage at the nodes considered is 0.0000718. If the allowable damage
during pipelay is 0.02 (2%), then the pipe could be held for (0.02 / 0.0000718 ) * (3400 / 3600) = 263 hours under these
conditions before the allowable fatigue damage is exceeded.

This is not surprising since the calculated stress ranges are relatively small, and the S-N curve used assumes that the
welds are of very high (SCR) quality.

Please note that the DNV F2 curve is probably more appropriate for normal pipeline quality welds. Use of the E curve
would normally require full scale fatigue testing of the pipe welds to confirm the quality of the welds.

Subject: Allow Holding Duration for Fatigue

Dear Sir/Madam,

I send this email for you from VietsoVpetro J.V.C who have valid license to use OFFPIPE software lawfully.
In past time, We have upgraded such software to version 3.0 and taken a sort training course to know how to use this version.
I am very interested in this version because it make the pipelay analysis easier and more effective.
However, I find that the Manual didn’t update for some news, e.g. Fatigue Damage, Local Buckling check…,So it make me confused
when i try to calculate the Allow holding duration because no information about this calculation is available.
Thus, I send email to get good help from you to solve this problem.

You can see in attached file the result of OFFPIPE 3.0 for Fatigue Damage, the Allowable Damage Ratio is 2% as specified in DNV-OS-
F101.

I shall look forward to hearing from you and wish to thank you for your attention.

Regards,
