UNIT-1
1 a List any 2 examples open loop & closed loop systems. Give the block diagram of 6
any one open loop & one closed loop system.

b Consider the block diagram as shown in the fig 1b. Find the transfer function. 10

2 a For the mechanical system show in Fig.2b, draw the equivalent mechanical 10
network, electrical analogous circuits. Also represent the system mathematical

i) Output c(t) for step input
ii) Steady state error for ramp input

4 a Apply RH Criterion & Comment on the stability of the system described as 6

b Draw The Polar Plot Of An Integral Factor (1/s term), derivative factor, first order 10
pole, first order zero. Explain the technique used.

c Outline the process of evaluating the gain & phase margins of a system from polar 4
plots.

5 a The OLTF of a system under consideration is given by 10

Comment on stability using Nyquist plot.


b For a closed loop system shown in fig5.b determine the range of K for which the 10
system is stable and also the freq of sustained oscillation using R-H criteria.

6 a For a unity feedback system with forward path gain 14

Draw the root locus. Find the gain to have a damping ratio of 0.707 and t s<4 sec
determine peak overshoot, setting time.

b Outline the effect of addition of poles and zeros on the root locus. 6

7 a Construct Bode plot for the transfer function with unity feedback. 12

i) Find limiting value of K for Stability


ii) Find K for a gain margin of 10dB.
b Find the transfer function given the Bode plot of the system as in fig 7.b 8
