guided by the rubric on the right. (three to five sentences)

1. Differentiate management science from other mathematical discipline.

Management science is the application of science and mathematics to study


management whereas analysis, statistics and methods are used for the management
system to solve problems. However, mathematical discipline is a grouped of related science
used as tools in order to apply in management to have an appropriate solution to the
problems being faced by the organizations. Management science is used in practicing
scientific management or applying scientific approach to problem-solving to enhance
manager’s decision-making while mathematical disciplines are operations or processes
involved in the solution of a problem.

2. How can management science be useful in business?

Management science is a scientific approach designed to particularly identify and


evaluate the effectiveness of certain process or decision. Also, it is recommendable for
managers to use this approach as a tool to effectively plan, organize, lead and control
operations within the business. Through this, increase in production and achievement of
company’s objective will be observed. Moreover, management science plays a vital role in
solving problems within the company by providing best and applicable solutions for the
betterment of the management and operations of the company. In addition, with this
approach, direct facilities, marketing, purchasing, personnel allocation, research and
development can be used resulting to maximization of profit.

3. What is the relation of William W. Copper to management science?

William Wager Cooper known as the Father of Management Science and Mr. Linear
Programming was an American operations researcher. He was the founding President of
The Institute of Management Sciences. Furthermore, his major subjects were about
economics, accounting and management science and operations research and said to have
high volume and high diversity. He innovated the design of organizations and applied
mathematical and scientific approach for the benefit of businesses.

Contributions of Management Science
 Management Science opened new ways for managers to operate the business.
 Provides decision-making tools and techniques for managers to think about
complex managerial problems in the future and give appropriate solutions.
 Enhances understandability of overall organizational processes by the managers

Limitations of Management Science

 This theory ignores the importance of people, relationships and other non-
quantifiable factors.
 The assumptions used for quantifying decision making do not match real-world
situations.
 This theory is not substituted of management functions. It prescribes a limited
number of tools for the specific use in solving problems.
