1. Locate a Canon copier/printer to which you want to print; and make note
of the 4-digit number labeled on the outside of the copier.
2. On your Windows computer, click the START button; then click “Printers
and Faxes.”
3. Double-click “Add Printer” to start the Add Printer Wizard; then click Next.
4. Select “Network Printer;” then click Next.
5. Select “Find a printer in the directory;” then click Next.
Installation Note: the 4-digit physical copy NUMBER is for the copier to which
you want to print; the 5-digit copy CODE will allow you to actually copy and print
to the copier.
Before the first time you print to a copier/printer, you need to enter your
department’s 5-digit copy code into the printer driver (installed in Part I above).
1. Obtain your department’s 5-digit copy code from your budget manager or
office manager.
2. On your Windows computer, click the START button; then click “Printers
and Faxes.”
3. Right-click on the installed Canon copier/printer; then select Properties.
7. From this point on, you will be able to print to that copier/printer.
Single-sided Copying:
1. Place originals into the document feeder and press start.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS
Creating Covers:
1. Place your originals in the feeder and press the [Special Features] key.
2. Press the [Cover/Sheet Insertion] key.
3. Select the [Front Cover] and press the [Next] key.
4. When copying onto the Front Cover, press the [Printed] key, and then press
[Next].
5. Select the paper source for the Front Covers, and press the [OK] key.
6. Press the [Done] key.
• The display returns to the Basic Features screen.
7. Proceed to make copies in the usual way.
If you enter a value outside the setting range, a message prompting you to enter
the appropriate value will appear on the screen. The display returns to the Basic
Features screen, and the selected copy ratio is displayed. Proceed to make
copies in the usual way.
1. Open up the side bypass tray, located on the right hand side of your copier.
2. Place the paper (up to 140lb. Index 50 sheets) onto the tray, make sure that
the guides are flush against the edges of the paper.
3. On your touch screen, touch Paper Select and select the size of the paper.
(letter, letter-R, etc) by touching the correct size on the screen.
4. Then select the paper type (plain, heavy, letterhead, transparencies, etc).
5. Touch [DONE].
6. If you are using the special paper for your entire copy job, touch [DONE]
again. If that paper is being used for a cover or insert, press the [RESET]
button so that paper selection on the main screen is on auto.
Finisher (Optional)
The Finisher is used to make collated, grouped, or stapled sets. Not all Finishers
allow you all of these options. Touch the FINISHER button on the touch screen
and you will see all of your finishing options.

JOB BUILD- Select this when the number of originals exceeds the capacity of the
Document Feeder. (The capacity of the Feeder is 50 originals for the
IR2270/2870/3570/4570 and 100 originals for the IR5570/6570/8070/9070.)
Remember to set up all job level functions before pressing start. (ie; Two-sided}
Creating Mailboxes:
1. Press ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
2. Press [Mailbox Settings].
3. Press [Box Set/Store].
• Scroll down to an unused mailbox.
• Press to select desired mailbox.
4. Press [Store Name].
5. From the alpha/numeric keyboard, enter desired Name for the Mailbox (0 –
99).
6. Press [Document Name]. Name the document. (ie. Fax Cover)
7. Press [OK].
Using the copier number keys, enter a password if desired. Passwords can be up
to 7 numbers. Select desired time for auto document erase: 1,2,3,6,12 hours (or)
1,2,3,7,30 days (or) 0 for OFF = permanent document storage.
Press [OK] to enter data. The new mailbox will be displayed. If secured, a
padlock icon will show.
Deleting a Mailbox:
1. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 above.
2. Press to select desired mailbox.
3. Press [Initialize]; press [Yes] to delete the mailbox.
4. Repeat step above to exit.
NOTE: At least one mailbox must already be created on the imageRUNNER 5000
(through Additional Functions).
Scan to Mailbox:
1. Place documents to be scanned in the document feeder or on the platen
glass.
2. Press [MAILBOX] button.
3. Press to select the destination mailbox.
4. Press [Scan].
5. Enter the job-level settings for that document.
6. Press [START] button to begin scanning document.
7. The document will be listed in the mailbox queue.
8. Repeat steps 1, 4, 5 & 6, or send several print files to that mailbox. You will
need at least 3 documents in the same mailbox to fully demonstrate the new
mailbox features.
NOTE: All Job-Level settings for each separate Mailbox document (Simplex,
duplex, zoom, etc.) will be overridden by whatever you set in the Mailbox print
screen. All documents printed in merge mode will share those settings. Output
will be all simplex or all duplex.

Secure Print allows any network User to send confidential documents to the
imageRUNNER, without the need of a Mailbox for that User.
1. Go to FILE.
2. Go to PRINT.
3. Select the [Canon driver] as the printer.
4. Go to PROPERTIES in the print dialog box.
5. Click on the down arrow next to the PRINT icon.

1. Go to FILE.
2. Go to PRINT.
3. Select the [Canon driver] as the printer.
4. Go to PROPERTIES in the print dialog box.
5. Click on the down arrow next to OWNER INFORMATION
6. In the box under SECURED PRINT enter a 4 digit number
7. Select [APPLY].
8. Select [OK] to close PROPERTIES box
9. Select [OK] to close PRINT DIALOG box
Press the “Fax” button. Using the number panel, dial your destination number
(include 9 if necessary). Press “OK” then the Start button.
If there is an error in your transmission, the device will print out an error report.
Otherwise, you may assume that your fax was sent successfully.
Quality Options Tab: From the quality tab, you can choose the best quality for
your output.
Technical Tip:
To maximize the uptime of your new Canon product, and minimize downtime, the
following tips are strongly encouraged and recommended.
Please note that the following models iR8500/105 all have the following warning
messages:
1 "Cleaning web is low"
2. "Waste toner full"
Please call and place a service call when you see this message, each of these
messages indicates that the machine is in need of service.
For example the message “cleaning web is low” will be displayed 5-10k copies
prior to the cleaning web actually running out. Once the cleaning web runs out
the error message E-005 will be displayed and the unit will be inoperable until a
technician arrives to replace the web.
1. Take the copy with the line and place it on the glass as shown on the picture.
2. This gives you a general area to look at and clean on the slit glass.
3. Use a soft and damp paper towel to clean the general area of the slit glass.
1. Open the front toner cover as shown below. This is where your BLACK
toner cartridge is located.
2. Gently pull out the used toner cartridge.
3. Gently push the new toner cartridge into the toner cartridge position.
• NOTE: Before setting the new toner cartridge, remove the sealing tape
from the front of the new toner cartridge.
4. Push in the new toner cartridge until the toner cartridge ▲ marks align with
the ▼ marks on the main unit.
5. Close the toner supply cover.
