DESIGN RESEARCH:

Design research could be specified as a procedure of research of the broad design

process, concerning theoretical, analytical and practical value. In simple words design
research means the research to conduct a design. The aim of design research is not to get
the answer rather than to find the right question that we need to be solving. This type of
research is created from design studies and methods where the process of design is
studied and articulated. Such as, in architectural design process, we have to make a
journey from literature mapping and review to find the right problem of that specific
function which will help us to make a right design decision.

Research Design:

Research designs are types of inquiry within qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods
approaches that provide specific direction for procedures in a research study. The
historic origin for qualitative research comes from anthropology, sociology, the humanities,
and evaluation. are also viable ways to conduct qualitative studies: Narrative,
phenomenological, grounded theory, ethnography, case studies. During the late 19th and
throughout the 20th century, strategies of inquiry associated with quantitative research
were those that invoked the postpositivist worldview and that originated mainly in
psychology. These include true experiments and the less rigorous experiments called quasi-
experiments. Mixed methods involve combining or integration of qualitative and
quantitative research and data in a research study. Qualitative data tends to be open-
ended without predetermined responses while quantitative data usually includes closed-
ended responses such as found on questionnaires or psychological instruments.

Differences between design research and research design:

Design research is the procedure of research that is required to complete a design. And
research design provides specific fir procedure in research study. Design research is the
knowledge to complete a research and research design is the plan on how the research will
go on. The terms “design research” and “research design” are more or less related. A good
research design is the way of completing a good design research.
