LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS GRADE III

I. Objective:
State basic division facts of numbers up to 10.

II. Subject Matter:

Stating basic division facts of numbers up to 10.

A. Value Focus:
Orderliness and Cooperation

B. Prerequisite Concepts and Skills:

Multiplication

C. Materials:
Flashcards with multiplication and division facts, balloons

III. Instructional Procedures:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity:

1. Drill

(Show flashcards with basic

multiplication facts/sentences)

 Let us answer the following (Pupils answer)

multiplication sentences:

3 x 6= 3 x 6= 18
4 x 7= 4 x 7= 28

5 x 8= 5 x 8= 40

6 x 9= 6 x 9= 54

7 x 10= 7 x 10= 70

2. Review

(Show flashcards with division

facts/sentences)

18 ÷ 2= 18 ÷ 2= 9
40 ÷ 8= 40 ÷ 8= 5

12 ÷ 3= 12 ÷ 3= 4

70 ÷ 10= 70 ÷ 10= 7

14 ÷ 7= 14 ÷ 7= 2

 Can you recall the parts of a  Yes sir!

division sentence?

24 ÷ 6 = 4
 In this division sentence, what is  The dividend is 24.
the dividend?
 How about the divisor?  The divisor is 6.
 What is the quotient?  The quotient is 4.

3. Motivation

 Do you know how to play the game  Yes sir!

“The Boat is sinking”?
 Let us play the game but before
that let me tell you the mechanics of
the game.

The mechanics of the game:

a. Let the pupils stand and stay in
one place altogether.
b. The teacher says, “The boat is
sinking, lifeboats for five.” The
pupils who cannot form a group
of five members will sit down.
c. The teacher says again, “The
boat is sinking, lifeboats for
eight.” The pupils will again form
a group of eight members in each
group. The pupils who cannot
form a group of eight will sit
down.
d. Do the activity until only 1-2
players are left or until the given
time is over.

 Are you ready to play the game?  Yes sir!

 The boat is sinking, lifeboat for five! (They will form groups with five members
each)
 The boat is sinking, lifeboat for (They will form groups with eight members
eight! each)

(Perform the activity until only 1-2

pupils are left)
B. Developmental Activities

1. Presenting the lesson

 This morning we will learn how to

state a basic division
facts/sentences of numbers up to
10.
(Ask 3 pupils to act as sellers of (Selected pupils will come on front and act
balloons. First seller with 4 yellow as a seller of balloons holding 4 balloons
balloons, second seller with 4 blue each)
balloons and the third seller with 4
red balloons)

 How many balloons seller are there  There are 3 balloons seller.
in all?
 How many balloons are there in  There are 4 balloons in each seller.
each seller?
 How many balloons are there in all?  There are 12 balloons.
 What multiplication fact/sentence  The multiplication fact/sentence is 3 x 4 =
can we give or write? 12.

 This means that there are 3 sellers

of balloons with 4 balloons in each
seller, so we have 12 balloons in
all.
 What division fact/sentence can  The division fact/sentence is 12 ÷ 4 = 3.
give or write?
 This means that there are 12
balloons divided equally with 4
balloons in each seller equals 3
sellers.

2. Performing the Activity

 Do you already know how to give or  Yes sir!

write multiplication and division
facts/sentence?
 So then, study the table.
 Who can answer and complete the (Pupils will answer until they complete the
table? table)

Example: Example:
3x2=6 2x3=6 6÷3=2 6÷3=2 3x2=6 2x3=6 6÷3=2 6÷3=2
x2 x2
2 2 2x2=4 2x2=4 4÷2=2 4÷2=2
3 3 3x2=6 2x3=6 6÷3=2 6÷2=3
4 4 4x2=8 2x4=8 8÷4=2 8÷2=4
9 9 9x2=18 2x9=18 18÷9=2 18÷2=9
10 10 10x2=20 2x10=20 20÷10=2 20÷2=10

 Do you want to know more?  Yes sir!

 If you want to learn, group yourself (Pupils count from 1-3 and then group
into 3 groups and complete the themselves)
tables. Write or give its
multiplication and division
fact/sentences.
 But before we start, what are the  Cooperation, be responsible, be quite,
standards to follow in group share your ideas and etc.
activity?

(Distribution of activity cards and

materials.)

3. Processing of the Activity

 Group reporters, present your work. (Group reporters will present the tables they
(After the presentation of their answered)
works.)

Ask:
 How were you able to give/write the  We were able to give/write the division
division facts/sentences? facts/sentences by knowing the
multiplication facts, then we can give the
division fact.
 What can you say about the  The division facts are the inverse of the
multiplication and division facts? multiplication facts.

4. Reinforcing the Concept

 Do you already know how to give or  Yes sir!

5. Summarizing the lesson

 Based on our discussion and on  We can give or state the division facts by
the activity that we had, how can knowing the multiplication facts then
we give or state the division fact? convert this into division facts.

6. Applying to New to Other

Situation

 Do want some individual game?  Yes sir!
