Terminology
1) Leap year:

Any year which is

-> Divisible by 4 ,

-> if it is divisible by 100,then it should be divisible


by 400

( i.e except non - 4th multiple of


100s.)

*It has 366 days also feb has 29 days

Ex: 1600 , 1804, 1916, 2000, 2020..

but not 1700, 1800, 1900,2100...

2) Ordinary year:( Non leap year)

Year having 365 days is called an ordinary year.

-> Not divisible by 4

-> Not divisible by 400 if its divisible by 100


eg) 1900, 1990, 1913, 1945...

3) Odd Day:

Leftover days with respect to an incomplete week

( remainder when divided by 7)

eg) 2019 have 365 days

364+1 = 52*7+1

so , dividing 365 by 7 gives remainder 1 and hence

Number of ODD DAYS in 2019 is 1

2019-> NLY-> 365 days -> 365/7 rem = 1 odd days

similarily, 2020 have 366 days = 52*7+ 2 days

Number of ODD DAYS in 2020 is 2

An Ordinary year has 1 odd day, whereas

a Leap year has 2 odd days.

1) Find the number of leap years from 1200 to 1300

Ans) 25
2)Find the number of leap years between 1200 and 2000

Ans) 1201 to 1999

799/4 -> quotient = 199-(6)=193

3) If today is Sunday, what day will be after-

(a) 50 days from today ?

(b) 100 days from today?

(c) 200 days from today ?

Ans) a) how many odd days in 50 days?

1 odd -> Sunday +1-> Monday

b) 100/7 -> 2 0dd days

sun +2 -> tue

c) 200/7-> 4 odd days

Sun+ 4-> Thur

* For a non leap year, Jan 1 and Dec 31 will be same day

* For a leap year, Dec 31 will be the next day to that of Jan 1st

(i) r=0 -> +28 (leap year) (-28)

(ii)r=1 -> +6 (-11)

(iii)r=2 -> +11 (-11)

(iii)r=3 -> +11 (-6)
