A Visit to the Museum


Art museums make great works of art available to the public, sometimes for free and sometimes
for a fee. The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. does not charge for admission, and it contains
some of the most famous and valuable works of art in the world. The museum is free, so anyone can just
walk in and wander from room to room, looking at thousands of years’ worth of great art.
When people visit a museum, they sometimes say, “I don’t know much about art, but I know
what I like.” People can’t always agree on whether art is poorly or skillfully done and whether it is
beautiful or ugly. There are certain pieces of art that many people have loved for a long time. Some
examples are the statue of David by Michelangelo, the photography of Ansel Adams, and perhaps the
most famous of all, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. However, other works of art are seen as
